POSITION SPECIFICS

The Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity (CSGD) at Penn State invites applications for the Program Coordinator position. This role focuses on student advocacy, advising, and campus-wide outreach related to issues of diverse genders and sexualities, inclusion, and student success. The Program Coordinator supports both the Director and Assistant Director in managing daily operations, administrative functions, and providing direct support to Penn State's LGBTQ+ student communities.

For over 20 years, CSGD has served students of diverse genders and sexualities at Penn State, offering robust support services and programming. As a result of this work, Penn State has been recognized as one of Campus Pride's top LGBTQ-friendly campuses.

The Program Coordinator has major responsibilities that include but are not limited to the following:

Programming & Student Support

  • Plan and implement student-centered educational and social programming.
  • Create promotional materials and assessments for events.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to increase access, support community, and foster student success.
  • Manage administrative tasks related to programming, including contracts, financial documents, speaker logistics, and travel arrangements.
  • Coordinate facilities and equipment reservations, room setup, supply orders, and catering.
  • Lead programs such as Queer Peers (first-year experience) and Lavender Lions (residential living-learning community).
  • Evaluate and report on program goals and student learning outcomes; analyze data to identify improvements and best practices.
  • Support affinity-based discussion spaces.

Marketing & Community Engagement

  • Design and maintain promotional materials for CSGD events and programs (e.g., posters, flyers, newsletters, and social media content).
  • Maintain and expand a database of program participants and attendees.
  • Enhance outreach and community engagement.
  • Provide support and referrals for colleagues across campuses engaging with diverse student communities.

Supervision & Administration

  • Supervise student staff for programming and marketing.
  • Serve as lead advisor to the CSGD Student Leadership Council.
  • Act as a confidential resource for students.
  • Participate on university committees and assist with daily office operations, including reception and visitor support.
  • Build and maintain relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Assist in tracking Student Initiated Fee expenditures.

Necessary Skills & Knowledge

  • Deep understanding and application of equity-informed practices striving to create student access, develop community and belonging, and foster student success. .
  • Knowledge of issues affecting LGBTQ+ communities, particularly those at the intersections of race, gender identity, and other identities.
  • Experience supporting LGBTQ+ students of color and historically underrepresented communities.
  • Familiarity with student development theory and experience advising student organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience in program development, facilitation, and assessment within student affairs or related services.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with marketing, social media, and graphic design.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree 3+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. Penn State does not sponsor or take over sponsorship of a staff employment Visa. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $46,400.00 - $67,300.00.
