Job Function: Energy Management System Transmission Software Engineer


Career Level: P2



Primary Purpose:


Contributes to accurate modeling and data validation within the energy management system by applying technical knowledge to routine problem-solving. Supports system enhancements and collaborates with team members to maintain operational reliability and compliance standards.



Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Updates and validates network topology and generator parameters to reflect operational changes in the transmission grid.
  • Troubleshoots common software issues related to energy management system displays and data accuracy.
  • Assists in implementing minor enhancements to improve operator interface and usability.
  • Monitors real-time data streams for anomalies and collaborates with field technicians to resolve discrepancies.
  • Prepares and executes test scripts for system updates under guidance from senior engineers.
  • Reviews and corrects inconsistencies in graphical representations of transmission assets.
  • Supports compliance documentation for operational standards and audit requirements.
  • Participates in disaster recovery exercises and ensures backup data integrity.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:



  • Typically requires a 4-year degree in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Typically requires 2 years of related experience.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Energy Management Systems (EMS) - The automation systems that collect energy measurement data from the field and making it available to users through graphics, online monitoring tools, and energy quality analyzers, thus enabling the management of energy resources.
  • Power System Analysis - Performing calculations and simulations to verify that power systems, including the system components, are correctly specified to perform as intended, withstand expected stress and are protected against failures.
  • Power System Performance Monitoring - Tracking and evaluating data on power systems and their components in order to optimize the system.
  • Programming/Scripting - The process of writing instructions (code) that a computer can execute to perform specific tasks or solve problems.
  • Software Testing - The process of evaluating a software application to ensure it works as intended and is free of defects. It involves checking the software's functionality, performance, security, and usability through various methods
  • Technology Deployment - The process of delivering and integrating new technology-such as software, hardware, or systems-into an organization's environment so it can be used effectively. It includes planning, installation, configuration, testing, training, and support.
  • Data Analysis - Measuring and managing organization data, identifying methodological best practices and conducting statistical analyzes.
  • Requirements Management - The process of documenting, analyzing, tracing, prioritizing and agreeing on requirements and then controlling change and communicating to relevant stakeholders.
  • Troubleshooting - A systematic approach to solving a problem.
  • Technical Support - The ability to help users troubleshoot and resolve issues with technology products such as software, hardware, or systems. It ensures that users can effectively use and maintain their technology.
