Summary

Able to perform complete echocardiographic study integrating all imaging modalities necessary to obtain all pertinent patient data for diagnostic purposes. Sonographer will specialize in transthoracic echocardiographic studies for pediatric patients according to departmental and IAC protocol (which consist of M-mode, two-dimensional echocardiograms, color flow, pulsed wave and continuous wave Doppler). Sonographer will perform imaging enhancement agent, saline bubble, portable, stress echo studies, and assists with transesophageal echocardiographic procedures. Document completely and accurately patient data and echo exam information utilizing current information management system and follows appropriate billing for procedures. Be well organized and able to function independently. Assist in the orientation and training of all levels of trainees and visitors assigned to the Echocardiography Laboratory. The position may require varied shifts and include a weekend rotation. Staff is required to participate in on-call rotation as determined per specific department needs including holidays, weekends, and evenings. On-call staff must be at the hospital within 45 minutes from receipt of page. Must be patient orientated and show critical thinking skills with appropriate communication. Demonstrate flexibility in learning all equipment. Have an understanding of sterile procedures, isolation precaution techniques, infectious hazardous materials, sharp instruments, defibrillator equipment, and exercise proper precautions to avoid potential exposure to radiation.

Requirements

Education: Graduated from a cardiovascular technology program or diagnostic medical ultrasound program. Extensive experience may substitute training.

Experience: Minimum of 2 years experience in cardiac ultrasound required.

Certification: BLS certification (American Heart Association/Basic Life Support) required. Registered with American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers in Echocardiography (RDCS with PE) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International in Echocardiography RCCS, required. A Pediatric Cardiovascular Sonographer will need to have at least two ARDMS/CCI registry credentials that are currently being utilized at Lee Health or has one ARDMS/CCI registry credential and successfully completes the Advanced Initiative component within 24 months of accepting position. Fetal Echocardiography registry is preferred.
