Pay

$17.82 - $20.68 / hour depending on experience and qualifications

Schedule

1st Shift (Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM)

On-site

Interns will work approximately 20 hours per week during the school year and up to 40 hours per week may be expected during summer months and school breaks.

This internship will be year-round. Only candidates within commuting distance to Collegedale, TN will be considered.

Job Summary

McKee Foods is seeking a Chemistry Intern to join our Corporate Research and Development team. Gain hands-on experience in food analysis and quality testing within our Corporate R&D team. Work alongside experienced Chemistry and Food Technology professionals while applying your technical knowledge in a real-world setting. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to food safety, regulatory compliance, and the application of chemistry in manufacturing.

  • Prepare and analyze samples in a laboratory setting
  • Perform calibrations and maintain lab equipment
  • Document and report analytical and quality test results
  • Support food safety and regulatory compliance initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • Current enrollment in a BS degree or MS degree program in Chemistry, Biology, Food Science/Technology, Chemical Engineering or equivalent area of study
  • Sophomore, Junior, Senior or Graduate Student
  • Currently enrolled in or completion of Quantitative Analysis and/or Organic Chemistry I/II courses or equivalent higher level Biology courses
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel
  • Ability to clearly document procedures, problems, solutions, etc.
  • Strong problem-solving, trouble-shooting and analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in a chemistry lab
  • 3.0 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale
  • Undergraduate work including successful completion in some or all of the following courses: Food Quality or Food Safety
  • Self-motivated, with strong initiative and self-direction
  • Solid interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively alone or in a team environment
