Overview The Protection and Controls Engineering department within the Central Engineering organization is looking for a highly motivated Senior Engineer to join the Protection Support and Analysis section. Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- The Sr Engineer will be assigned to provide protection related support to Operation, analyze relay protection systems, including teleprotection channels, and (if applicable) provide corrective action plans after system events.
- The duties also include performing short circuit calculations and relay coordination studies. The candidate will develop descriptive documents regarding relay protection systems, for use by operating personnel. He/she will keep his/her supervisor informed on a timely basis of actual and/or anticipated problems of the assignments that are his/her responsibility.

- Periodically must be available 24 hours a day to consult with operating organizations on relay problems and resolve emergencies associated with relay protection systems.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and 8 years of engineering work experience in the application of relay protection systems at either the distribution or transmission level, or
- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering and 6 years of engineering work experience in the application of relay protection systems at either the distribution or transmission level.
Relevant Work Experience
- Possess strong technical competence, organizational skills, and attention to detail, required.
- Flexibility to manage multiple assignments with shifting priorities and deadlines, required.
- Proven analytical abilities, required.
- High regard for personal accountability and a strong commitment to Engineering Excellence, required.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with subordinates, colleagues, and various levels of management, required.
- Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), required.
- Protection experience, such as in setting relays, performing coordination, fault studies, developing logic, or using related software, preferred.
- Familiarity with power system fault analysis, either by hand calculation or software tools, preferred.
- Familiarity with NERC Reliability Standards (such as PRC-002, 004, 006 etc.), preferred.
Licenses and Certifications

Additional Physical Demands
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be available for travel both regionally and continent-wide, to attend conferences, meetings, etc. as needed.
- Selected candidate must be capable of working in indoor and outdoor conditions including inclement weather.
- Must be able to walk/climb/stand extensively.
- Must be able to work in power plants and high voltage substations and wear the required PPE as needed.
