Overview

NV5 is growing our Water Resources Team in Southern California with the addition of a Water Resources Field Engineering Associate. We are seeking a broadly experienced individual familiar with Municipal Stormwater/NPDES Permits, Monitoring, Reporting, and/or Municipal Jurisdictional/Watershed Management Programs, Engineering Assessments, Green Stormwater Infrastructure design and analysis. The ideal candidate will excel in performing fieldwork, troubleshooting water quality issues, and developing best management practices. Strength in Phase I Municipal Stormwater/NPDES Permit Compliance Programs is preferred, and/or experience with Phase II NPDES Permits, Industrial, and Construction Permits. Relative to the candidate's degree and/or number of years of experience, the ideal candidate will help develop, provide field support, and execute cutting-edge water quality monitoring and assessment projects and Jurisdictional compliance programs for NV5's Municipal clients. The selected candidate will work closely with professionals in water quality monitoring and assessment, hydrology, stormwater planning, and program management, as well as a broad range of scientists, GIS experts, engineers, and planners who are focused on solving complex water quality and regulatory issues.

This position offers a unique opportunity to develop professional skills with a pathway to project management leadership, supporting key water quality, sediment, and stormwater compliance monitoring projects with a focus on California water quality regulations.



Responsibilities

    Supporting private and municipal clientele with stormwater permit compliance projects
  • Field work including performing field observations, sampling, monitoring equipment installations, and operations and maintenance
  • Anticipated 70% field work, 30% office work.
  • Preparing Sampling and Analysis Plans, Quality Assurance Program Plans, and Site Health and Safety Plans
  • Flow and analytical data QA/QC, formatting, analysis, and graphing using MS Excel and other software tools
  • Data evaluation and report writing
  • Frequent contact with clients, regulatory agencies, and outside contractors
  • Preparing Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs) for Industrial and Construction Permit Projects
  • Performing monthly compliance field inspections at industrial sites, performing Best Management Practices (BMP) inspections, and providing corrective action reports.
  • Management and data entry of facility information into state database systems such as SMARTS, CIWQS, and CEDEN
  • Participation at local association meetings, regulatory meetings, and relevant California Stormwater Quality Association subcommittees/conferences.


Qualifications

  • B.S. in Water Resource Engineering, Environmental Science, Aquatic Biology/Chemistry, or a related field. An advanced degree is preferred.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in the Southern California Stormwater Industry
  • Successful project/task implementation track record and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to communicate complex scientific data and technical information.
  • Experience with water quality/stormwater monitoring and familiarity with California's regulatory environment and water quality challenges.
  • Familiarity with TMDLs and key water quality initiatives, stormwater planning, and collecting and analyzing water quality/sediment/biological monitoring data.
  • Experience with Phase I MS4 Permits, especially for Southern California municipalities.
  • Familiarity or experience with Phase II Permits.
  • Certification with either EIT, QISP, or QSD/P is desired.
  • Water quantity and water quality modeling.
  • Experience with SMARTS and familiarity or experience with CIWQS and CEDEN
  • Strong skills and proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. Also, data analysis/visualization experience is highly preferred.
  • Ability to multitask and manage a variety of project activities
  • A collaborative and entrepreneurial spirit

The pay range for this position in California is $70,000 to $100,000 per year. Base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
