The Lab Technician III organizes and executes project testing with minimal direction in support of Performance Coatings Group. Responsibilities will include leading projects, organizing testing, completing performance testing, and generating reports on results. Must be able to coordinate multiple projects/timelines simultaneously. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining test equipment and supplies, training of others on lab technique, and film test protocols. This position reports to the Testing and Certification R&D Group Leader.

Leads Testing and Certification projects as assigned:



  • Provide support for Indirect customer, business level and segment support.
  • Comply with test methods according to set standards and if any discrepancies exist communicate these back to the requestor.
  • Identifies scheduling conflicts and roadblocks to ensure customer delight.
  • Provides feedback, test results, and data regarding the test projects submitted. Then clearly communicates the results and files / retains the reports and testing panels as required.
  • Leads efforts to complete basic project results; requires independent judgment within professional guidelines.
  • May serve as a project leader for projects with objectives that are outlined, short-term. Provides professional support to the product development, quality control, manufacturing processes, and other operations.
  • Conduct the implementation of quality efforts in all equipment processes within the laboratory as they pertain to requirements called out in the published test methods.
  • Manage of the operation, preventative maintenance, cleaning, and calibration of a variety of equipment related to test equipment; utilizes technical or standard equipment during the course of projects. Communicating with vendors as needed.
  • Complete proper forms and documents (purchase forms, log sheets, etc) when necessary.
  • Function with sustained supervision and write simple reports, outlining procedures used and the results obtained.
  • Attend quality, safety, technical meetings and seminars as necessary.
  • Comply with all safety, quality and security regulations, and maintain a clean work area.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS



  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of basic math skills
  • Computer knowledge for basic inputting, communication, and data analysis using Microsoft Software applications
  • Knowledge of basic paint concepts and property calculations.
  • Lab equipment knowledge
  • Understanding of test methods
  • PC skills; Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); and other applicable applications



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • High School Diploma with 2 semesters of General Chemistry
  • 1 or more years of experience in a laboratory
  • 1 or more years of experience in coatings industry
  • Mechanical abilities
