Job Summary

Under supervision of the Central Service Supervisor, maintain and prepare equipment, instruments, surgical implants and medical supplies for use in surgeries and VMTH following established protocols. Disassemble, clean, disinfect, reassemble, inspect, and sterilize functional instruments and equipment for surgical services. Operate and maintain sterilizers, ultrasonic washers and other equipment related to the preparation and processing of surgical instruments, implants and supplies. Perform quality control tests on sterilizers and document results. Utilize computer programs to help maintain inventories of surgical implants, instruments and supplies. Receive, inventory, and distribute and dispense hospital supplies.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

* Certification Board for Sterile Processing & Distribution
* Certification as a Central Service Sterile Processing Technician, either through HSPA or CBSPD.
* Experienced in operations of a hospital sterile processing system and knowledge of Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN) recommended practices in regards to sterile processes.
* Skilled to handle infectious waste & hazardous substances (chemicals used for cleaning, sanitation, disinfection & sterilization).
* Computer skills to access, retrieve, update and use specialized hospital computer systems.
* Skills to perform maintenance on instruments and equipment.
* Organizational skills to prioritize time and daily workload. Oral and written communication skills with a diverse group of people, including clients, clinicians, referring veterinarians, students and staff in regards to veterinary care and operative management of small animal patients.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience receiving and distributing bulk freight.
* Knowledge of principles of acquisition and inventory control.
* Knowledge of UC campus receiving and delivery system.

The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) is a unit that provides clinical case material in support of the teaching programs throughout the School of Veterinary Medicine on a 24-hour basis. Its primary objectives are to train professional (veterinary) students, graduate clinical students (interns and residents), and graduate academic students; to provide veterinary services to the public; to serve as a referral center for practicing veterinarians, and to advance veterinary medical knowledge.

Work Environment
