Department Information The Office of Research Integrity Assurance works with faculty oversight committees and boards to promote the ethical conduct of research and to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements relating to research involving human subjects, vertebrate animal subjects, rDNA, synthetic nucleic acids, and dual-use research of concern research. The committees supported by this office include the Institutional Review Board, the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, the Institutional Biosafety Committee, and the Dual Use Research of Concern (DURC) Institutional Review Entity. Job Summary Facilitate compliance for research conducted at Georgia Institute of Technology. Support the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) by serving as the primary intake handler for animal subjects and recombinant DNA research protocol applications. Conduct preliminary reviews of such applications/protocols, coordinate additional reviews by other stakeholders, and communicate the results of reviews to the researchers. Provide user assistance for the compliance software system through which applications are submitted. This position will interact on a regular basis with: Georgia Tech faculty, staff, students, IACUC & IBC members (including community members), Institute leadership, and external partners. This position typically will advise and counsel: Institute leadership, researchers, IACUC staff, IBC staff, veterinarians, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) staff, and others. This position will supervise: N/A. Responsibilities Job Duty 1 - Provide guidance to research personnel on application preparation and review study protocols regarding regulatory requirements. Job Duty 2 - Perform intake and preliminary review of animal subjects and recombinant DNA research applications including review of new protocols, amendments, and renewals. Job Duty 3 - Prepare, review, and maintain records and other documentation related to research compliance for IACUC through the creation of meeting minutes and inspection reports. Job Duty 4 - Coordinate campus-wide training for IACUC compliance. Review, validate, and maintain training records for regulated activities. Job Duty 5 - Protocol administration for new protocols, amendments, renewals, annual reviews, and Veterinarian Verification and Consultation (VVC) reviews. Job Duty 6 - Maintain current awareness of regulatory compliance policies and processes. Job Duty 7 - Assist with compliance system testing and user training. Job Duty 8 - Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Educational Requirements Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Required Experience Two to four years of job-related experience. KNOWLEDGE Knowledge in the application of federal and institutional regulations regarding one or more of the following compliance areas: human subject research, animal subject research, recombinant DNA, dual-use research of concern, export control, or research conflicts of interest. Knowledge and understanding of U.S. animal care and welfare regulations including but not limited to: Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, 2010 Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, 8th Edition, AVMA Guidelines on Euthanasia, US Department of Agriculture - Animal Welfare Act, Department of Defense (DoD) - Care and Use of Laboratory Animals in DoD Programs. Knowledge and understanding of U.S. regulations for activities involving rDNA or synthetic nucleic acid molecules including but not limited to: NIH Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules; Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories (BMBL), Sixth Edition; Laboratory Safety Monograph, a Supplement to the NIH Guidelines for Recombinant DNA Research. Familiarity with reporting/operating tools associated with the position. SKILLS Strong organizational skills, clear written and verbal communication, and professionalism. Strong proficiency with Microsoft Suite (OneDrive, Teams, Word, etc.) and remote meeting hosting.
