Job Summary

Milwaukee Public Schools seeks an exceptional Instructional Coach - Social Studies (6-12) candidate who is highly qualified and knowledgeable to join our community of teachers, learners, and leaders.

The Instructional Coach - Social Studies (6-12) is a non-evaluative, non-supervisory teacher position that will work collaboratively with the social studies curriculum specialist, classroom teachers, school learning teams and community. The social studies instructional coach will be assigned to the department of Curriculum and Instruction.

Qualifications

  • Current teaching license and demonstration of leadership in Social Studies education
    • Position Licensure - one or more of the following: 701, 710, 715, 725, 734,735, 740, 745, 760 or 2700
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful, fully licensed teaching experience in Social Studies.
  • Master's degree required.
  • Experience in providing professional development at the district level or significant demonstration that goes beyond working with staff at one school alone.
  • Experience using instructional technologies to improve student performance.
  • Experience in a leadership role within a diverse, multicultural teaching and learning environment.
Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with teachers, other curriculum specialists, and district and school leaders to implement the social studies instructional design and Wisconsin Social Studies Standards.
  • Uses data from district accountability measures and performance assessments to guide both district and school-based work.
  • Reviews, refines and develops classroom assessments.
  • Demonstrates and models effective instructional strategies for teachers in their classrooms based on research proven practices and district resources.
  • Provides principals and teachers with effective feedback on best social studies practices.
  • Demonstrates, models and facilitates effective coaching strategies for social studies teachers.
  • Supports schools with the implementation of the K-12 Social Studies Curriculum Guides and district curriculum resources.
  • Collaborates with community partners to develop partnerships and opportunities for social studies teaching and learning.
  • Attends and facilitates professional developments outside of a regular work schedule.
  • Communicates social studies opportunities with school staff using monthly newsletters streamlined to the needs of the classroom.
  • Facilitates social studies meetings at the school level.
  • Provides support for the MPS Summer School Program.
  • Assists with the implementation of the UNSIL World Fair.
  • Accurately maintains schedules and records, efficiently completes paperwork.
  • Actively supports the MPS Strategic Plan.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

The salary range for this position starts at $55,317.33 and increases according to a set salary schedule which is based on years of work experience as a fully licensed teacher/pupil services educator in a K-12 setting and education beyond a bachelor's degree.

Salary range: $55,317.33 - $103,599.82 (2F - 200-day calendar)
