Job Summary

The primary function of this position is to serve as a Clinical Research Counselor for clinical trials involving delivery of Contingency Management for Veterans with medical and surgical conditions.

The primary responsibilities of the interventionist will include:

  • Direct administration of and consultation with psychology trainees in administration of a psychological assessment (MINI Neuropsychiatric Inventory) and delivery of behavioral coaching for tobacco cessation (motivational interviewing techniques included)
  • Fidelity monitoring of contingency management intervention for tobacco cessation; and
  • Documenting visits in CPRS and REDCap.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Department Description

The UCSF Department of Psychiatry and the Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute are among the nation's foremost resources in the fields of child, adolescent, adult and geriatric mental health. Together they constitute one of the largest departments in the UCSF School of Medicine and the UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences, with a mission focused on research (basic, translational, clinical), teaching, patient care and public service. UCSF Psychiatry conducts its clinical, educational and research efforts at a variety of locations in Northern California, including Langley Porter Psychiatric Hospital and Clinics, UCSF campuses at Mission Bay and Laurel Heights, UCSF Medical Center, UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals, Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, the San Francisco VA Health Care System, and UCSF Fresno.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and minimum one year of experience or equivalent combination of training/experience
  • Clinical background in Veteran health, addiction research, tobacco cessation research and conduct of clinical trials
  • Proficiency with CPRS VA electronic health record
  • Training in motivational interviewing for smoking cessation.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Possesses education and other requirements for credentialing by the UCSF Medical Center and San Francisco VA Healthcare System
