The Opportunity:

Join the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC) team at our Cocoa, FL-based office as an Engineer II, providing engineering and technical services for specialized research facilities. This position involves planning, designing, installing, and maintaining solar energy and energy-efficient building components for field testing and monitoring.

Responsibilities:


  • Provide engineering and technical services for specialized research facilities. This includes planning, designing, installing, and maintaining solar energy and energy-efficient building components for field testing and monitoring.

  • Daily management and organization of field-based experimental facility installation and maintenance needs for energy research faculty. Maintain design plans, performance logs, and related records.

  • Develop procedures for testing and troubleshooting technical components and system failures in field operations. Monitor systems in FSEC WebGet Databases.

  • Serve as an instructor at workshops and seminars to provide information on emerging energy technology developments.

  • Train technicians and student employees on best practices, codes, and standards related to field research experiments and emerging energy applications.

  • Provide periodic reports for academic and industry partners and government funding agencies. Participate in proposal preparation and contract reports.

  • Specify and procure research equipment and provide oversight of expenditures.


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information

Preferred Qualifications:


  • 5+ years of experience in solar energy, building science field applications, or energy-efficient construction practices.

  • In-depth knowledge of photovoltaic (PV) system installation, operation, testing, evaluation, and related training practices.

  • Proven experience in the design, operation, and use of solar energy lab equipment and energy efficiency technologies.

  • 3+ years of experience mentoring or training others in the solar energy field.

  • Possession of relevant industry certifications or credentials (e.g., NABCEP certification, OSHA 30, etc.) is preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated effectiveness in delivering presentations and technical instruction.


Special Instructions to the Applicants:

The anticipated salary range for this position is $64,518 to $85,000. The final salary will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.

This position is located in Cocoa, Florida.

Position requires a valid Class E driver's license. This position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.

May require 15% of out-of-state travel.

This is a Contract and Grant (C&G) funded position. Employment is subject to availability of funding and may cease at the time funding for this employment is depleted.
