H.B. Fuller acquired ND Industries in May 2024. ND Industries specializes in the formulation and manufacturing of a variety of materials applied on fasteners and assemblies to aid in critical function such as locking, sealing, masking, lubricating and noise and vibration dampening.

The R&D Chemist - Adhesives has primary responsibility for formulating and scale up of specialty adhesives and coatings. The individual in this role will also provide support services to designated technologies with manufacturing and customer applied areas. Their research tasks will be coordinated by experienced scientists and managers.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Formulate specialty adhesives and coatings

  • Scale up new formulations and perform customer/technical service

  • Design experiments (DOE) with guidance

  • Develop plans for research projects or product development programs with oversight from supervisor

  • Ability to complete projects independently & analyze results and contribute original ideas to projects

  • Present & report tech info at internal meetings

  • Proactively collaborate with peers and support development, sharing, and testing new ideas with a team

  • Concise data and situational communications skills (verbal and written)

  • Work with colleagues in lab, plant, sales, customers

  • Maintain multiple projects advancing simultaneously

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science with 3+ years relevant work experience OR

  • Master's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science with 1+ years relevant work experience.

  • Knowledge of the raw materials used in the development of chemical products & ability qualify alternatives in your core area & learn impact of raw materials in formulas outside core area

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations and ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

  • Experience applying advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.

  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis as well as advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.

  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

  • Ability to carry up to 25 pounds

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience with epoxy, acrylate, polyurethane, alkyd-melamine, water-based formulation, and/or solvent-based formulation

  • Bilingual English & Mandarin

  • Ability to travel up to 25%

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, and geographic location.

The salary for this role is $80,000 - $100,000.
