Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an International Standards Project Manager. This is a hybrid opportunity based in our Durham, NC OR Washington, DC offices.

The International Standards Project Manager will support a portfolio of safety standards and related activities to drive the adaptation of safety standards in international markets and advance the mission of UL Standards & Engagement (ULSE) to make the world safer, more secure, and sustainable. The International Standards Project Manager will manage and coordinate international project activities, develop and advance standards proposals, and serve as a key liaison with global stakeholders and standards development organizations, including IEC, ISO, and US and Canadian Mirror Committees. The International Standards Project Manager will contribute technical input to international committees, champion proposals through consensus processes and advocate for safety and sustainability policies in partnership with policymakers, industry leaders, and global standards developers. As a strategic partner, the International Standards Project Manager will identify emerging technologies and opportunities where the organization can shape and influence the future of international safety standards.

What you'll learn and achieve:

As the International Standards Project Manager. you will play a key role in the rapid growth of UL as you:

  • Support the integration of ULSE safety standards and requirements into relevant end-product and services standards, and advocate for use of UL standards publications at the international level.

  • Analyze products, standards, and testing methodologies to gather insights and inform the preparation and composition of gap analyses, testing procedures and technical reports.

  • Support the integration of safety standards and requirements into relevant end-product and services standards, and advocate for use of UL standards publications.

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with relevant stakeholders including industry representatives and organizations, government agencies, regulatory bodies, and other standards organizations.

  • Drive collaboration within the team to ensure team-level goal achievement and enable success in effective execution of standards activities.

  • Organize and present information to internal and external stakeholders. Represent ULSE at industry-related functions such as seminars and trade shows.

  • Identify opportunities to collaborate cross functionally and within the broader safety community. Support continuous evolution and relevance of safety standards and create capacity for new high global impact standards.

  • Maintain continued awareness of industry trends and external context related to international safety standards. Stay current with regulatory requirements and compliance frameworks governing public safety.

  • Independently execute tasks and proactively mitigate risk or improve outcomes.

  • Perform other duties as directed.

  • Broad understanding of technical standards, standards development process, code development process, conformity assessment and understanding of regulatory frameworks.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with experience analyzing and resolving issues, optimizing task execution, and implementing risk mitigation strategies.

  • Strong communication and engagement skills, able to develop and implement comprehensive communication and engagement plans, as well as effectively communicate project goals, requirements and progress to various stakeholder groups.

  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills, with the ability to communicate complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Positive and collaborative interpersonal skills, with proven capability in fostering collaboration and partnership across teams to develop solutions with broad impact, while establishing effective relationships with others, including senior leaders and external stakeholders.

  • Strategic thinker with ability to innovate and adapt in a dynamic industry landscape

Professional education and experience requirements for the role include:

  • A bachelor's degree is required. Technical degree preferred.

  • Minimum 3 years of related work experience.

  • Able to work in a highly cross-cultural environment.

  • Fluency (written and spoken) in English. Proficiency in other languages is a plus.

  • Experience with national, regional, and international standardization bodies is a plus
