The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Print Shop Specialist for the Office of Public Communications.

General Description
Facilitates fluid print production of client jobs in a cost effective manner, while ensuring the highest quality product is delivered.
Works under close to general supervision according to set procedures, but determines how or when to complete tasks.

This is advanced print work performing and overseeing the operation of wide-format UV, color and monochrome printers in a centralized print in-plant. Operating automated high speed production print, insertion, and bindery equipment for the production of customer communication, such as, booklets, fliers, brochures, forms and other documents as required..

Responsibilities and duties include:
* Operating and maintaining a variety of full-color printing, display, wide format and direct to substrate hybrid printers.
* Operating and maintaining wide format flatbed cutting equipment.
* Creating and modifying files for imposition, flatbed cutting and variable data printing.
* Coordinating printing priorities and schedules to maximize efficient use of equipment operation time, materials and supplies.
* Performing all setup operations including: following equipment maintenance schedules, manipulating files in preparation for daily print schedule, equipment calibration, modifications and adjustments.
* Performing post press operations including: scheduling equipment maintenance on a daily and weekly schedule; bindery, finishing and shipping preparation, includes the operation of a mechanical paper cutter, collator, paper folder and other bindery equipment as required.
* Exercising considerable technical independence in determining proper printing methods and control of work.
* Performing quality assurance checks to proof for color, accuracy, formatting, stock size and quantity.
* Preparing production reports indicating job type, requesting agencies and costs.
* Delivering printed materials to clients.
* Operating digital production cut-sheet and wide-format equipment using and advanced print controllers.
* Performing display setup operations including: The construction of exhibits and displays, ensuring display objectives are met.
* Performs related work as required.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires two (2) years experience performing/overseeing the operating high-speed color and monochrome copiers using a commercial print controller or related equipment including six (6) months lead work or closely related experience. Must have valid class E driver's license

-Adobe Illustrator certified expert certificate
-Wide format/direct to substrate printing and CNC/routing experience


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Produces four color print jobs using digital and offset equipment; prepares digital files for pre-press production.

Maintains and repairs equipment; monitors and organizes warehouse and supply levels; orders supplies and calls vendors for price information; inventories paper and chemicals; maintains a complete inventory of forms, headway reports, and bus operator's maps; inventories and restocks bus schedules for drivers; calculates the amount of paper used for jobs.

Determines proper printing methods and controls workflow to meet client due dates, while performing quality assurance checks.

Supervises preparation and operation of bindery, digital and offset equipment; operates complex binding equipment; checks co-workers on completed jobs and delivers jobs.

Coordinates with co-workers to design new forms; attends section meetings.

Performs related work as assigned.
