Overview
The Department of Veterinary Clinical and Life Sciences (VCLS) in the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at Utah State University (USU) is seeking applicants for a professional practice Assistant or Associate Professor of Veterinary Clinical Instruction position, with a fiscal year or academic year appointment, with the assignment of 95% teaching and 5% service; or 70% teaching, 25% research and 5% service. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2026. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications.

This candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of veterinary professionals by providing them with the practical knowledge and skills to excel in their careers. The candidate is expected to deliver hands-on clinical skills instruction and other curricular instruction in line with their expertise in the new Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree curriculum.

USU CVM will be admitting its inaugural class of 40 students in the fall of 2025 and supporting a class size of 80 veterinary students in subsequent years. This position offers multiple opportunities for professional development in instruction, and innovative teaching methods. Responsibilities
Position Responsibilities for Teaching:
  • Develop and deliver hands-on clinical skills instruction in the DVM degree curriculum
  • Develop and deliver other DVM curriculum instruction based on successful candidate's expertise
  • Develop and implement innovative teaching methodologies, assessment tools, and evaluation criteria to measure veterinary students' proficiency

Position Responsibilities for Service:
  • Contribute to the department, college, university, and profession through service (e.g., serve on graduate student, curriculum, hiring, and admissions committees)

Position Responsibilities for Research (if applicable):
  • Develop and carry out a research program that includes mentoring students to produce quality research as well as seeking external funding to support the research program
  • Publish scholarship in peer-reviewed scientific journals
  • Steady and consistent record of research or creative endeavors supporting your scholarly activity


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Earned DVM degree or equivalent
  • At least three years of clinical veterinary experience
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and as a team member in a collaborative setting

Additional Qualifications Necessary for the Rank of Associate Professor:
  • Demonstrated ability to design and successfully implement clinical skills curricula in a DVM degree program
  • Demonstrated ability to publish refereed scientific/educational research
  • Demonstrated ability to acquire extramural funding (for candidates seeking a research appointment)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching clinical skills to veterinary students
  • Board certification in a relevant veterinary specialty area
