THE POSITION

This role functions as an Assistant Driver License Examiner for PennDOT, playing a vital part in enhancing highway safety. The position involves assisting with customer interactions at the Driver License Center, where a key responsibility is the thorough examination of identity documents. This scrutiny is essential in the fight against identity theft and fraud, ensuring that only legitimate individuals are issued licenses. By meticulously verifying the authenticity of these documents, the assistant contributes to a safer driving environment and helps maintain the integrity of the licensing process. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, the Driver License Examiner Assistant is stationed at a Driver License Center, where they play a crucial role in delivering driver licensing services to the public. The responsibilities include warmly welcoming customers, verifying applicant identification, assisting with the completion of application forms, and inputting data into the online driver license application system. Additionally, the assistant is tasked with distributing relevant forms and informational brochures tailored to the specific needs of each customer. They administer standardized knowledge tests to assess applicants' comprehension of motor vehicle regulations, driving laws, and traffic control devices, while also conducting vision screenings using a telebinocular instrument to ensure visual acuity for all applicants.

Furthermore, the assistant is responsible for entering test results and customer applications into online software systems via a PC terminal. They must independently address inquiries and concerns from the public, demonstrating a thorough understanding of the services offered and the requirements for each, including the criteria for obtaining REAL ID and non-REAL ID products. The role also involves providing information regarding various services such as driver's license renewals, duplicates, out-of-state transfers, motorcycle licenses, and commercial driver's licenses (CDLs), along with the associated restrictions and endorsements. Upon request, the assistant generates Restoration Requirements Letters for customers who visit in person.

Moreover, it is essential for the assistant to ensure the correct fee waiver code is applied and properly documented whenever a fee waiver is necessary for processing customer transactions, adhering to all aspects of the Fee Waiver Guidelines. Compliance with the Driver and Vehicle Services Customer Service Policy is mandatory, as is the strict observance of all REAL ID regulations. The assistant also issues and scans the Non-Native Born US Citizen/Non-US Citizen Courtesy Form as needed, ensuring that all procedures are followed meticulously to maintain the integrity of the licensing process.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Overtime and travel as required
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.
