Position Purpose

Stark State College is seeking a dedicated and student-focused full-time Instructor of Biology to join us in the upcoming fall semester. The ideal candidate will teach a range of biology courses, contribute to curriculum development, and support student success through innovative instruction. The successful candidate will contribute to the College's commitment to academic excellence, student success, and community engagement. This position is a full-time, 180-day contract position starting in August 18, 2025.

Typical Hours/Days of Work: Varied with each semester due to courses and office hours. Teaching assignments may include day, evening, weekend, satellite and/or online courses.

Location: Our faculty have the opportunity to instruct in North Canton and Akron Campus as well as online.

Pay: $44,244 - $57,516, commensurate with experience.

Typical Responsibilities Include:

  • Prepare and deliver engaging and effective instruction in various courses (including anatomy and physiology (introductory and cadaver-lab based), microbiology, biology, and environmental science).
  • Teach across multiple modalities: in-person (day/evening/weekend), hybrid, and online (as assigned).
  • Implement innovative teaching methodologies and integrate technology to enhance the learning experience.
  • Develop course materials, assignments, and assessments aligned with student learning outcomes.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills and a foster collaborative learning environment.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and assessment activities.
  • Provide student academic support through appropriate office hours and academic advising as outlined within the department.
  • Assist with department activities to promote the success of Stark State College.
  • Additional experience in cadaver-based anatomy and physiology, cadaver dissection, and microbiology is a plus (although not required).

To be Considered You'll Need:
  • A Master's Degree in Biology or closely related field OR a Bachelor's Degree with a major certification, or professional credential dictated by the field.
  • Degree(s) must be from a regionally accredited institution at the time they were conferred.
  • Candidate will be expected to possess a high level of proficiency in the English language. This proficiency is essential for effective communication, instruction, and interaction with students and colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications (although not required):
Two years of teaching experience at the college level is preferred.
Experience in coordinating and mentoring students who are conducting undergraduate research projects.
Additional experience in cadaver-based anatomy and physiology, cadaver dissection, and microbiology is a plus.
