As a
Safety Specialist II - Fire Alarm Technician, you'll serve as a technical expert responsible for maintaining and inspecting campus fire sprinkler and alarm systems, ensuring compliance with all
NFPA and
ICC code requirements.
The ideal candidate is organized, collaborative, and self-motivated, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective relationships with colleagues, contractors, officials, and the public. They should be confident working independently, adept at resolving problems and conflicts, and have a solid understanding of local, state, and federal building code regulations.
A background in fire protection systems is preferred. The successful candidate will also excel in communication, adaptability, customer service, leadership, planning, problem-solving, and teamwork, and bring a strong commitment to continuous learning.

Minimum Education and Experience |
BS in a related field. Three (3) or more years of related experience or a combination of education and experience. Should have the ability to carry 50 lbs. and walk extensively. Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver's License and acceptable driving record.

- Bachelor's degree in Fire Science, Fire Administration, or a related field
- Texas Fire Alarm License (FAL)
- Fire Extinguisher License (FEL)
NICET certification in Fire Alarm Systems and Water-Based Systems- Responsible Managing Employee - General License (RME-G)
- Strong knowledge of fire alarm codes, standards, and applicable regulations
- Proficiency in programming fire alarm control panels and associated devices
- Demonstrated working knowledge of fire and life safety codes and standards
- Experience with fire alarm inspection, testing, maintenance, repair, and operations
- Thorough understanding of safety regulations and safe work practices
- In-depth knowledge of fire alarm systems, including reading and interpreting plans and specifications

Essential Duties and Responsibilities |
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Inspect, maintain, and repair fire alarm systems and sprinkler equipment in compliance with NFPA codes, state regulations, and manufacturer guidelines.
- Conduct system testing, troubleshooting, and routine preventative maintenance on fire alarm control panels, devices, and sprinkler systems (wet, dry, pre-action).
- Complete and maintain inspection reports, work orders, and required documentation per fire code regulations.
- Replace or install components such as smoke detectors, strobes, relays, batteries, and fire extinguishers as needed.
- Manage inventory and storage of life safety equipment and supplies; keep accurate records.
- Track system impairments and enter testing data into the fire safety database.
- Coordinate with vendors for regular inspections of fire extinguishers, alarm systems, and sprinklers.
- Collaborate with IT to update fire safety information on campus maps.
- Support fire safety outreach and educational programs.
- Represent the department during campus disasters or hazardous material incidents.
- Participate in on-call duty rotation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Strong knowledge of NFPA codes, state regulations, and fire safety standards.
- Skilled in inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing fire alarm and sprinkler systems.
- Proficient in documentation, reporting, and data entry related to fire safety compliance.
- Competent with tools and equipment used in fire system maintenance and repairs.
- Effective communication skills with stakeholders and monitoring companies.
- Ability to manage inventory and maintain detailed records.
- Alert and responsive during on-call rotations.
- Ability to coordinate cross-departmentally and with external vendors.

- Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand or walk for periods of 2-4 hours and sit for up to 2 hours at a time
- Frequent use of hands for simple grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling
- Occasional squatting, kneeling, bending, lying down, crawling, kneeling on one knee, and pushing or pulling with forces up to 75 pounds
- Ability to work outdoors in a wide range of temperatures and environmental conditions
- Capable of working at heights and demonstrating a full range of body motion, physical agility, and balance
