About the Role:

As a senior consultant - healthcare quality assurance (QA) tester in the Modernization and Data Solutions practice area, you will collaborate with team members to provide testing services related to X12N American National Standards Institute (ANSI) electronic data interchange (EDI) X12 healthcare transactions and National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP) transactions and response files for major system implementation projects on behalf of our healthcare clients.

Serving as a healthcare QA tester, your day-to-day role as a NYSTEC consultant will be to interpret requirements and technical design documents to develop, enhance, and validate the EDI X12 healthcare and NCPDP transaction standard formats, as well as Structured Query Language (SQL) scripts to test, review, and evaluate vendor-executed test case results and assist with identifying operational issues, conducting risk assessments, and providing issue resolution.


Key Responsibilities

  • Create, review, modify, and validate EDI X12 healthcare transactions specific to the X12 Post-Adjudicated Claims Data Reporting (PACDR) transaction set and the NCPDP Post-Adjudication Standard to ensure compliance with business requirements and regulatory requirements.
  • Interpret requirements and technical design documents to develop, enhance, and validate SQL scripts, review and evaluate vendor executed test case results, and assist with identifying operational issues, conducting risk assessment, and providing issue resolution.
  • Manage SFTP file transfers to ensure the security, accuracy, and timeliness of data exchange.
  • Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery of assigned work.
  • Develop test plans and test cases, provide testing status summary to testing lead, organize and communicate testing results, and collaborate with project team, client, and client vendor in the defect remediation process.
  • Participate in cross-functional work groups to resolve issues, including data quality and data gap issues.


About you:
Required Qualifications

  • Expertise in X12 healthcare and/or NCPDP transaction sets, and experience in reviewing, interpreting and creating X12 transaction files.
  • Diversity of strengths relating to software quality management, including:

    • Eliciting and documenting business requirements.
    • Conducting testing and QA oversight.
    • Managing testing event schedules.
    • Anticipating and communicating issues and risks.
    • Developing key technical documentation.
    • Delegating tasks.
    • Providing oversight, system design, and client/vendor management.


  • Ability to understand, create, and execute SQL scripts.
  • Proficient writing, organizational, communication, and analytical skills to meet project goals.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote work environment.
  • Ability to communicate testing development strategies, approach, and testing results to our healthcare clients.


Preferred/Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working with Medicaid, Medicare, and/or commercial off-exchange healthcare data.
  • Knowledge of ANSI EDI X12 healthcare transactions, including but not limited to 837 PACDR (X298, X299, X300), 834 Plan Member Reporting, 277 Data Reporting Acknowledgment, 999 Implementation Acknowledgment for Health Care Insurance, and NCPDP Post Adjudication Standard V4.2.
  • Knowledge of the systems development life cycle (SDLC).
  • Experience managing Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) file transfers and ensuring the secure transmission of data across EDI X12 healthcare transactions.
  • Thorough knowledge of advanced SQL.
  • Thorough knowledge of healthcare business analysis.


Education and Experience

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree and five years of experience testing software implementation projects involving X12 healthcare and/or NCPDP transactions, as well as experience in SQL development and software QA testing.


The target base salary for this position is $79,000 - $109,000 per year. When determining compensation, we analyze and carefully consider several factors, including skill set, experience, location, and job-related qualifications.
