Location: Cambridge, MA USA

This position will be located at the Cambridge, MA site and will not have the ability to be located remotely. This position will require some travel as defined by the business (domestic and/ or international).

This role reports to a Managing Director at the Novartis Venture Fund (NVF) and is a key team member of a leading global corporate life sciences venture fund. Your primary role will be to collaborate with and support senior members of the NVF team. The Analyst will be expected to operate successfully in a start-up environment. The position will frequently interact with our external stakeholders in industry and venture capital, as well as our internal colleague stakeholders in the Novartis Group.

NVF is focused on investing in bio therapeutics. Its primary mandate is to optimize financial returns and has done so historically by focusing on innovative companies seeking to develop products that may be paradigm changing in areas of high-unmet need.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist NVF colleagues in all stages of scientific due diligence for new & follow-on investments.

  • These activities will include thorough review of publications & business plans, leading discussions with consultants as well as KOLs in the area, competitive analysis of the field, and other relevant diligence questions.

  • Secondary activities may include market analysis, financial and capital modelling.

  • Prepare and maintain internal documentation on potential investments/portfolio companies, including investment memos and financial analyses.

  • Create presentations and build financial models to support new and ongoing investments.

  • Perform other tasks as necessary to support the team.

Essential Requirements

Education:

  • PhD in a natural science, or MD, is required

  • Additional MBA is a plus

Experience:

  • 2+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech or investment industry

  • Strong scientific background, excellent understanding of the life science market and the pharma world as well as medical needs and emerging science and technology trends

  • Familiar with scientific due diligence processes

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

  • Effective in an international high-performance environment

  • Ability to prioritize, coordinate and manage several projects simultaneously

  • Proactive, hands-on and entrepreneurial individual with a great passion for research, analysis and investments

  • Strong strategic orientation with good analytical and conceptual ability and a tendency to think beyond one's own area of expertise

Novartis Compensation Summary

The salary for this position is expected to range between $132,300.00 and $245,700.00 per year.

The final salary offered is determined based on factors like, but not limited to, relevant skills and experience, and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically. Novartis may change the published salary range based on company and market factors.

Your compensation will include a performance-based cash incentive and, depending on the level of the role, eligibility to be considered for annual equity awards.

$132,300.00 - $245,700.00
