Position Description

Contributes to the University's and TTUISD's mission through teaching and service. Provides instruction, appropriate assistance, information and tutoring. Performs instructional and educational work while serving as an online teacher. Provides feedback and grades for lessons, exams and final course grades. Organizes and develops course work, coordinates classes for students, observes and assesses the needs of the students. Maintains communication both formally and informally with students and other educators.

About the Department and/or College

Texas Tech University K-12, a unit of the Texas Tech University Online division, is a state-approved online kindergarten through 12th-grade school that has been meeting students' needs for more than 25 years.

Affiliated with Texas Tech University, a Carnegie tier-one research institution, TTU K-12 boasts a rigorous curriculum that allows students to work ahead, make up failed credits, and achieve their goals from wherever they are.

Texas Tech University K-12 is a Candidate for Accreditation with NCA CASI, NWAC, and SACS CASI.

TTU K-12 began in 1993 as a "Special Purpose District" designed to help students whose educational needs were not adequately met by traditional school districts. Since then, we have grown to serve students across the country and more than 70 nations around the world.

Major/Essential Functions

- QUALITY INSTRUCTION - 1) Knowledge of Texas curricular requirements for K-12 education. 2) Serve as the Special Education Teacher for online K-12 courses. 3) Provide synchronous inclusion support according to students' accommodations. 4) Foster student success through monitoring student learning and progress. 5) Utilize interactive and intensive instructional methods and data tracking (i.e. DreamBox and iStation). 6) Adapt lessons to address individual needs of all students.
- EFFECTIVE ASSESSMENT AND FEEDBACK - 1) Assess students via mClass, DreamBox, and iStation or intervention groups as assigned 2) Provide scheduled universal screenings.
- COMMUNICATION - 1) Facilitate positive interactions with students and systematically communicate with learning coaches about scheduling, student needs, progress, STAAR accommodations. 2) Read and respond to communications from TTU K-12 each business day. 3) Respond to learning coach/student messages and questions within one business day. 4) Utilize the LMS discussion boards, messaging, email, Zoom and/or phone chat. 5) Work cooperatively with TTU K-12 staff.
- COURSE COMPLETION - 1) Systematically monitor students' progress to determine dismissal from program. 2) Conduct transition interviews and report data
- DOCUMENTATION - 1) Document student needs and progress after each session. 2) Document communications that are not in LMS messages in the SIS. 3) Create PLAAFP before ARDs 4) Track, monitor, and report IEP goals. 5) Provide ARD/IEP, 504, STAAR, etc. data/documentation. 6) Document provided instructional services.
- POLICIES AND PROCEDURES - 1) Adhere to all TTU K-12 policies and procedures as noted in the TTU K-12 Faculty Handbook. 2) Attend all faculty, MTSS, 504, and ARD meetings and required trainings. 3) Perform other duties as assigned by TTU K-12 superintendent and/or principals.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree, State of Texas Teacher Certification in area of expertise, and three years teaching experience in a public or private school setting.

- Effective and efficient utilization of time and resources. Anticipates and responds to the needs of the department.
- Bachelor's degree, State of Texas Teacher Certification in area of expertise, and three years teaching experience in a public or private school setting.
