A Brief Overview

The Newborn/Infant Intensive Care Unit (N/IICU) at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is a100- bed Level IV unit with significant growth planned in the coming years.For more than 50 years, we've cared for critically ill babies with all types of conditions and congenital malformations using the latest technology and advances in neonatal medicine.

We provide care for neonates who need acute medical care, including multidisciplinary evaluations, complex surgical intervention, ECMO and special low-dose radiologic imaging.

The medical staff is organized into teams, led by a senior neonatologist. Fellows, neonatal nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and pediatric residents work with the neonatologists on each team to provide care for 12-18 babies. CHOP N/IICU APPs also have the opportunity to practice at our level III NICU at our King of Prussia and at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

We also offer a Nocturnist role with this team at a higher salary.

Providers who are new-to-practice will receive a robust 16-20 week training inclusive of clinical, didactic, and simulation-based education as part of the Advanced Practice Clinical Immersion Program.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a cohort of patients, perform and document daily assessments, collect data, and analyze findings to inform family-centered plans of care.

  • Perform advanced procedures listed in the Scope of Practice and approved as a part of the credentialing process.

  • Serve as a consultant and educational resource to patients, families, students, and multidisciplinary healthcare team members.

  • Participate in scholarly activities and maintain required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate educational offerings.

  • Address safety issues and demonstrate shared accountability for safe practice.

Education

  • Required: Bachelor's degree- Physician Assistant

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work in a team setting with multiple responsibilities

  • Ability to use computer and electronic medical records effectively

Licenses and Certifications

  • Required (upon hire): Licensed Physician Assistant - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board or New Jersey State Licensing Board (depending on location)

  • Required (upon hire): Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) - National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants

  • Required (within 3 months): Prescriptive Authority - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board or New Jersey State Licensing Board (depending on location)

  • Required (upon hire): Basic Life Support (BLS)*

  • Required (upon hire): Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)*

  • Required (upon hire): Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)*

*Must be issued through an organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (i.e., American Heart Association or Red Cross).

SALARY RANGE:

$115,060.00 - $152,450.00 Annually

Salary ranges are shown for full-time jobs. If you're working part-time, your pay will be adjusted accordingly.
