The Network Architect - Optical role is responsible for design, operations, management, and security of all DataBank optical networks. This includes all data centers across 29 markets in the US and EMEA. This role will work directly with customers as well as internal engineering, cloud, operations, sales, product, and data center teams to ensure the service and SLA requirements established by the company. The individual should have a customer first mentality and work well with others. Be well organized, multi-faceted, be able to shift priorities on a moment's notice. Work afterhours, performing operational maintenances, scheduled customer changes, and on-call duties.

Responsibilities:

* Tier IV problem escalation and root cause analysis.

* Plan/Lead Optical projects including upgrades and modifications.

* SME and prime owner for optical network.

* Capacity management providing weekly updates on project status and risks.

* Lifecycle Management of optical platform.

* Develop documentation and maintain policies, processes and procedures.

* Training of Jr team members.

* Work alongside Engineering team to implement new network services.

* Maintain proficiency and certification on existing and emerging optical technologies through self-study, and industry publications.

Qualifications:

* 12+ years of experience with optical networking.

* Bachelor's degree in electrical, computer, telecommunications engineering, or related discipline.

* Advanced level knowledge of CWDM/DWDM/OTN Optical Transport hardware and software.

* Advanced level knowledge of Ethernet interfaces from Layer1 and 2 including protocols and encryption.

* Comprehensive knowledge of specialized telecommunications equipment (Ciena Waveserver, 6500, ADVA)

* Strong understanding and experience dealing with Service Providers and Carriers.

* Preferred experience in NETCONF, SDN, API integration and open-source network tools.

* Experience with dark fiber characterization and circuit testing.

* Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, including excellent written and verbal communication skills.

* Excellent problem-solving skills.

* Strong understanding of troubleshooting techniques and change management execution.

* Exhibits mature organization and time management skills.

* Experience with high availability global environment with 99.99% SLA.

* Accomplishes task with minimal supervision.

Optional skills:

* Scripting/Programming language experience associated with NetOps automation.
