Job Summary

Senior Storekeeper, the working title, is a generalist able to perform the core functions to receive and secure materials and assist in unloading. Cross dock packages into the warehouse management system for creation and inclusion in delivery route. Ensure items are appropriately scanned and sort pulled supplies to corresponding route bins. Inspect freezers in the biorepository area for leakage, and adequate ventilation. Inspect and receive incoming storage items and prepare for put away. Retrieve and pull files, boxes, and other material upon request from customers. Receive, uncrate, and inspect equipment deliveries for storage or for re-delivery to customers' site. In addition, the Senior Storekeeper may be assigned to other areas in Mail Services at its various locations. Maintain a professional appearance, wearing uniform appropriately. Be aware of different customer service requirements in each delivery location. In addition, the Senior Storekeeper may be assigned to other areas in SCM - Logistics operations.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

Department Description

Supply Chain Management - Logistics, under the Operations Manager, reports to the Executive Director of Supply Chain Management (SCM). From this service division that reports directly to a single manager, new operational groups and units within the groups are formed to become more efficient and effective in responding to changing business demands and expectations in the areas of logistics, i.e., shipping and receiving, asset management and storage including biorepository services, relocation and surplus collection, mail operation, and material distribution and collection.

Required Qualifications


  • Current CA Driver's License
  • Must be able to lift up to 70 pounds, using arm and fine finger movements in handling objects and withstand constant bending, squatting, crawling, standing, walking, reaching above the shoulder level, and frequent pushing and pulling of heavy mail carts, hand trucks, and other delivery equipment. Adept in working in confined or crowded locations and be acutely aware in proper handling and maneuver of delivery equipment in high pedestrian/visitor areas or congested corridors, offices, and labs. Work in various temperature and weather conditions.
  • Shown ability to establish and maintain good customer relationship and able to interact with a wide range of customers (management, lab personnel, medical staff, students, and patients) and provide accurate information.
  • Act and make decisions independently and able to prioritize and complete workload timely. Adhere to departmental standards on safety and courtesy and work performance through CARE.
  • Incumbent must be able to operate departmental delivery vehicles. Participate in the DMV Pull Notice Program and maintain an unencumbered CA drivers' license.
  • Must be able to read, write, perform mathematical calculations, understand and follow general and specific work instructions, both oral and written.
  • Proficiently operate various sizes of vehicles (vans and trucks) including forklifts and electric pallet jacks and have the ability to pass HazMat certification.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Knowledge with mail service activities, have basic knowledge of postal regulations, rates, and mail types: first class domestic international, accountable, and standard mail and some familiarity on commercial carriers (UPS, FedEx).
