The Strategic Communications and Marketing department at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Director of Marketing for Student Life.

About the Opportunity

The Assistant Director of Marketing for Student Life leads West Virginia University's efforts to market to current students at WVU. They oversee the day-to-day operations and project management of marketing and communications for the division of Student Life.

The Assistant Director of Marketing will work with the Director of Current Student Marketing to develop the overarching marketing plan for Student Life and oversee all marketing content developed from within the Division.

The position directly reports to the Director of Current Student Marketing and has a full-time staff member report directly to them, a Social Media Specialist. This position will lead the development of all social media efforts for Student Life.

What you'll do:



  • Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive marketing Plan for Student Life, working with the Director of Current Student Marketing and Student Life departments.
  • Handle day-to-day development and management of communications and marketing plans, as assigned by the Director of Current Student Marketing.
  • Manage projects from beginning to end and monitor progress based on set goals and deadlines.
  • Develop marketing campaigns/plans, and branding campaigns, as needed, for various events and initiatives.
  • Conduct post-campaign analysis for all projects and campaigns; develop reports and best practices based on insights.
  • Ensure brand consistency across all marketing activities (e.g. website, emails, social media, events, flyers, etc.) when executing communications and marketing plans.
  • Create marketing collateral when necessary, including written copy, photo, video, graphic design, etc.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends and identify strategic opportunities to utilize marketing and communications trends.
  • Develop strong partnerships with communicators and marketers across campus.
  • Supervise full-time Social Media Specialist.
  • Lead the development, execution, and strategy of social media for all Student Life social media accounts.
  • Perform other job-related duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing or related field
  • A minimum of four (4) years of related experience
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Demonstrated knowledge of marketing concepts and methodologies, strategy and principles.
  • Knowledge of consumer behaviors and key marketing/communication drivers that can affect various university constituents.
  • Management experience to include knowledge of key principles and practices of marketing, advertising, direct response, merchandising, social media and brand asset management and enhancement.
  • Additional marketing knowledge and experience in the areas of direct mail, promotional products, indoor and outdoor signage, sponsorships, graphic design, electronic, social and print collateral.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in recruitment marketing including strategy for segmented audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex, cross-platform projects and integrated marketing campaigns.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate diverse media into effective messages and campaigns.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and implement cohesive marketing plans/strategies on an institutional basis.
  • Demonstrated experience and leadership building and managing teams of creatives from concept to completion of projects.
  • Knowledge of a marketing campaign's process to provide creative direction, set a schedule and meet deadlines and content expectations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of marketing platforms and mediums, strategies, and audiences.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the mission, goals, and objectives of a national educational and research institution.
  • Excellent, demonstrated written, visual and verbal communication skills. Outstanding interpersonal skills.
