The student will work with the SLIP Program Specialist to perform a variety of duties within the program. At times this individual is the first point of contact with faculty, staff, students, and the general public regarding this academic program. The student will assist with carrying out the day-to-day activities of the program, including, greeting visitors and students, and directing them to the appropriate person, answering phones, taking messages, replenishing supplies, and taking and filling equipment and video requests. In addition, this person will be responsible for maintaining a video library database. On a very limited basis, the individual is also responsible for interpreting for Deaf faculty members, students and Deaf visitors in the SLI office, and according to state statute, must be eligible for licensure as an interpreter, or be enrolled in a signed language interpreting program. The work-study is also expected to abide by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf Code of Professional Conduct Minimum Qualifications Preferred Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Must be workstudy award eligible. Must be eligible for licensure as an interpreter or be enrolled in the Signed Language Interpreting Program. Ability to understand and follow written and signed instructions and procedures. Ability to communicate comfortably in American Sign Language and signed English. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Macs and Microsoft Office. General office skills. Organizational skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
