Job Description The Specialty Coordinator OR performs technical skills and provides assistance to surgeons, anesthesia personnel, registered nurses, and other professionals in the operating room. This position performs similar duties in other areas of the hospital as assigned. The Specialty Coordinator works under the supervision of the registered nurse in delivering safe, effective care to the patient during the intra operative period. He/she effectively interacts with patients and health care team members, while maintaining the surgical department standards; participates in surgical procedures on patients of all age groups, pediatric through geriatrics: may assist in circulating duties under the direct supervision of a qualified Registered Nurse. In addition to their primary role, the specialty coordinator is responsible for certain surgical specialties to maintain supplies/inventory; update surgeons' preference cards; inform vendors of cases; ensure supplies, implants and equipment is available for scheduled cases; serve as resource person for department on that surgical specialty; monitor cases scheduled ensuring rep notified, correct card used, & things needed are obtained before the day of surgery; and train or in-service new and existing team members where opportunities exist. Responsibilities Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of surgical procedures and instrumentation. Maintains current knowledge/certification. Pursues professional growth and development. Maintains supplies/inventory for department. Performs all responsibilities/duties required, as defined in the scope of service, to ensure that the unique nature of the client is addressed. Assist in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization. May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters. Qualifications Minimum Education High School Diploma or Equivalent Required and Technical Diploma/Certificate Practical Nursing Required or Certificate of Completion Military trained corpsmen Required or Certificate of Completion Hospital on the job training program Required or Technical Diploma/Certificate Surgical Technology Required Licenses and Certifications BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required Licensed Practical Nurse If an LPN, State of Florida or eligible compact state Upon Hire Required Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Possesses a strong character and unyielding sense of integrity with "a surgical conscious". Exceptional attention to detail and follow through. Ability to stand for long periods, strength to hold extremities, and/or instrument retractors for long periods. Possesses ability to move quickly without sacrificing quality and accuracy. Good memory, able to anticipate surgeon and patient needs well in advance. Must be able to return to the hospital/facility within 30 minutes of a Callback.
