Job Summary

#CA-DK

The position assist and supports a communication and service-based program to promote family-centered care and coordinate family/caregiver involvement during the surgical visit. They will serve to improve patient/caregiver satisfaction with Perioperative Services by helping to meet expectations, keeping families informed throughout the day, and providing a channel through which questions, concerns and special needs may be addressed.

This person should be customer service oriented and will enhance overall communication among patients, their families, the nursing and physician care team as well as the staff of the Surgical waiting room. This position will serve as a vital link to establish a relationship with patient families and patient care givers which will improve overall unit operations and patient/family satisfaction through communication regarding wait times and delays.

The individual will serve as an ambassador for the division of Perioperative services.

This position rotates between Main Operating Room, Same Day Surgery Center, University Tower Second Floor and Children's Surgery Center. This position is Variable days.

Minimum Qualifications

  • AHA or UC Davis Health CPR- Basic Life Support
  • Bachelors of Arts degree in Hospitality Management, Communications, Marketing, or similar discipline and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Experience in the Healthcare Setting, Customer Service, Service Recovery.
  • Experience working within a complex health system environment.
  • Proficient with common business software, ability to touch type 20 words per minute.
  • Knowledge of use and proficiency with computers, including mainframe applications such as Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic medical terminology. Accurate data entry. Attention to detail.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, originality, and judgment in applying established principles and practices.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal relationship skills to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff in a wide variety of positions and departments; ability to be sensitive and effective with persons representing varied economic backgrounds.
  • Good organizational skills, ability to independently coordinate a variety of tasks and functions, ability to set priorities, plan intervention, ability to be flexible and responsive.
  • Demonstrate error-free prose that conveys meaning to readers with clarity and sophistication. Write (via inventing, drafting, and revising) text that effectively communicate ideas, facts, and/or information to an audience appropriate for the assignment.
  • Solid interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to be diplomatic and highly organized.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and apply sound judgement.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast paced, demanding environment with minimal supervision. Ability to manage and oversee multiple tasks simultaneously, including high daily call volume.
  • Problem-solving skills to define a problem. Identify resources available, create viable solutions and take necessary action to implement and follow through to ensure the problem is resolved to the satisfaction of all parties.
  • Ability to cope during stressful situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in an informative diplomatic manner with consumers, referring providers, physicians, hospital administration, patients, staff, and the general public.
  • Ability to be highly productive and able to sit for prolonged periods of time and perform repetitive tasks. Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Ensure compliance with University and departmental policies and procedures. Maintain training and competencies at all times. Perform other duties as assigned

Department Overview

The PACU is focused on the recovery of patients from anesthetic agents, airway management, pain control, sedation, and hemodynamic monitoring for post-surgical adult and pediatric patients as well as patients from other units such as radiology, GI lab, pulmonary lab, cardiac catheterization lab, and labor and delivery.

The PACU may function as an overflow ICU when the ICUs are at capacity. There are four PACUs; Pavilion PACU (63 bays) and CSC PACU (24 bays), SDSC PACU (12 bays) and University Tower 2, UT2 (28 bays).

Work Environment
