The Audiology Assistant I supports the Audiology Department by performing a range of technical, clinical, and administrative tasks to enhance patient care and department efficiency. This role involves assisting with audiological evaluations, supporting patients and families in the use of hearing technology, conducting newborn hearing screenings, and maintaining clinical equipment and data systems. The Audiology Assistant I also contributes to the management of hearing aid and educational amplification programs and may perform school visits as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assists audiologists during audiological evaluations.

  • Instructs patients and families in the use and care of hearing technology equipment.

  • Performs the technical component of newborn hearing screenings in accordance with hospital protocols.

  • Troubleshoots hearing technology devices, recommends repairs, and drafts requests for authorization of parts and services.

  • Maintains inventory, organization, and records for hearing technology and clinical equipment.

  • Schedules appointments and meetings as needed.

  • Organizes and maintains clinical equipment, toys, files, and research records.

  • Enters and extracts data from departmental databases.

  • Performs school visits to deliver, troubleshoot, or collect educational amplification devices when needed.

  • Reports newborn hearing screening results to the Department of Public Health and completes clerical duties related to the hearing aid program.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Communication Disorders required

Licensure/Certification:

  • Eligibility to become licensed as an Audiology Assistant in Massachusetts required

  • Candidates not yet licensed will be hired into an Audiology Assistant Trainee role and provided with necessary observation hours prior to transitioning into the Audiology Assistant I role

Skills & Abilities:

  • Analytical skills and sound judgment to interpret data and respond appropriately to varying circumstances

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated empathy and ability to interact effectively with children and families

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Professional phone etiquette and customer service skills
