What you will do The Senior Principal Engineer serves as the primary subject matter expert on maintenance best practices and works with sites to institutionalize these best practices into their work practices. This role is responsible for leading, in collaboration with division leaders, plant managers, and asset leaders, the development and deployment of asset maintenance strategy across Clearwater Paper. Technical Consultation and Execution
- Serves as principal internal subject matter expert around Maintenance and Reliability for the sites
- Develops Maintenance best practices and supports mill sites in institutionalizing these practices in the work flow
- Principle contact for support and resourcing from external groups
- Assists in the development and execution of asset reliability programs incorporating capital prioritization and predictive and preventive maintenance programs (e.g. Vibration, Lubrication)
- Ensures that BDA/RCFA process is consistently and appropriately followed across company
- Develops functional cross sharing platform for equipment failures and learnings across all sites
- Provides expertise for urgent troubleshooting as needed
- Assists sites in planning, execution, and critique of major shutdowns
Continuous Improvement
- Lead and support a culture of continuous improvement and developing of critical KPIs through review, refresh, and refinement of the maintenance roadmap and asset strategy
- Supports the development and execution of maintenance plans for the company
- Works with mill teams to identify gaps in equipment uptime and assists team with building sustainable plans to close
- Identify opportunities to improve overall performance through the development and deployment of maintenance standards
- Proactively monitor evolving technology landscape for opportunities to continuously improve productivity, processes, and efficiencies
Leadership and Talent Building
- Foster an environment that encourages employee engagement through a demonstration and modelling of Clearwater Paper's Core Values
- Drive a culture of technical collaboration throughout business
- Champion and execute Clearwater Paper's Talent and Performance Management process incorporating goal development and deployment, talent reviews, succession planning, and talent selection and development to ensure organization sustainment

What you will need
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field required, Master's degree preferred
- Minimum ten years experience in paper mill maintenance, engineering, project management and/or production management required
- Minimum five years of budgetary responsibilities
- Reliability process management experience strongly preferred
- Certifications in Project Management, TPM or Continuous Improvement (Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt) desired but not required
- Understanding of predictive and preventive maintenance programs, work order systems and world-class maintenance systems
- Understanding of Root Cause Failure Analysis facilitation
- Previous experience with data manipulation tools (e.g. Power BI) preferred
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing personal development through continuing education, coaching and developing others
- Highly adept performing at a fast pace communicating and collaborating across multiple stakeholders
- Previous experience using a Computer Maintenance Management system preferred (e.g. JD Edwards)
- Must possess analytical troubleshooting skills
- Must have good verbal and written communication skills
- Continuous improvement/lean manufacturing experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to foster Continuous Improvement
- High speed manufacturing environment, sustained exposure to high frequency noises, multiple hours standing, walking on concrete surfaces
- Personal Protective Equipment required in mill environment
- Dirt, noise, odor, & temperature extremes
- Climbing stairs, ladders, and scaffolding
- Exposure to hazardous chemicals used in manufacturing process
- Travel required of 50-75% of time
