Engineer, Operations System General Purpose of the Job As a member of the Enterprise DevOps Team, the Engineer, Operations System (IT) is expected to work with Dev, QA, Security and Production Operations to serve as a technical SME responsible for the Legacy and Cloud-based services within the company.
Weigh software patterns, architectures and configuration against security and operational considerations. Work within a collaborative, team-based DevOps approach to help design, build, implement and improve DaVita's offerings Identify opportunities to improve and automate processes, systems and code Create the design, implementation, and ongoing management of systems that deliver against requirements for functionality, scalability, performance, and reliability. Show, through communication, practice and example, how DevOps and Cloud can deliver improved speed, flexibility and quality. Work closely with strategic planning groups to provide future technologies direction that fits executive vision. Develop and define process and procedure to proactively manage pre-production and production environments.
Role and Responsibilities
Administration and maintenance of deployment tools: SQL Combine, LanDesk or similar. Work with Project Management, QA, and Release Management to plan deployments of multiple projects to Production Environment and identify any risks or issues. Repair and recover from software deployment failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted user base or teams. Develop, Design, and maintain automation tools using programming, database or scripting languages to improve Production deployments. Ability to effectively use defect tracking tools (ServiceNow, Jira, HP-ALM, or similar) to help with resolution of production related issues/problems. Support and enhance SCM processes and procedures needed to support the Software development teams. Knowledge of SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle), and other SCM methodologies such as Agile, Waterfall. Coordinate the creation of software branches for parallel development and the use of labels to identify formal builds using Team Foundation Server, StarTeam. Work with Project Management team to plan development of multiple projects in the source control tool and identify any risks or issues. Perform software builds and deployments in to multiple environments. Support frequent after-business hours deployment activities. Forward Plan the release windows and cycles across a portfolio Manage risks and resolves issues that affect release scope, schedule and quality Measure and monitor progress to ensure application releases are delivered on time and within budget, and that they meet or exceed expectations Coordinate release content and effort based on the service request backlog, pending service requests, third party applications, or operating system updates Communicate all key project plans, commitments, and changes including requirements, QA plans, schedule, and scope changes Manage relationships and coordinate work between different teams at different locations Conduct Release Readiness reviews, Milestone Reviews, and Business Go/No-Go reviews Organize and coordinate complex releases that comprise of cross-functional teams and a multitude of interrelated and independent application and/or infrastructure changes Ensure resource (people and technology) requirements in support of a release are met. Ensure risk mitigation practices are in place (i.e. back out/contingency planning) Provide on-going written and verbal release status updates to various levels of the organization. Communicate release details and schedules to the Business as required Negotiate, plan and manage all release activities Maintains the release schedule for all core services and ensure alignment across key partners and vendors. Continually work towards making improvements in the release process Lead and co-ordinate the Go-Live activities including the execution of the deployment Plans and checklists. Participate in CAB meetings to discuss release scope and/or roadblocks Researches new software development and configuration management methodologies and technologies and analyzes their application to current configuration management needs Serve as an escalation point for all issues and questions associated with a specific release Ability to be flexible and use subject matter experts, circumstantial evidence and sound judgment to mitigate risks by adjusting releases and/or release management process requirements Uses post release reviews to improve and provide input into adjusting the release management process Support IT initiative to take work off the system (through elimination, automation, or move to self service) Assist in updating and documenting key policies, processes, and procedures Identify areas for improvement and integration in key processes
