POSITION SPECIFICS

The Drew lab (Drew-lab.org/) at Penn State is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow for a project studying the neural basis of nightmares.The fellow will join an interdisciplinary, multi-lab team with the Crowley (Crowley-lab.org) and Zhang (https://sites.psu.edu/zhanglab1/) labs investigating the neural circuitry underlying nightmares in a mouse model. The position is funded by a grant from the W.M. Keck Foundation.The position is available immediately.

The candidate should have a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or another quantitative field.Strong written and oral communication skills are required. The candidate should have at least one first author publication, either published or submitted. The successful candidate should have a solid programming background and ideally will have experience with DeepLabCut or other behavior tracking packages. Experience with in vivo imaging, small animal surgery, fiber photometry, or sleep physiology would be helpful, but is not required.

Responsibilities:

1. The postdoc will perform experiments in which neural and video data is collected from sleeping mice.This also entails performing small animal surgeries, habituation, histology, and other assorted interactions with mice.

2. The postdoc will analyze neural and video data. This includes writing custom analysis code in Matlab and/or other languages. The postdoc will also be responsible for maintaining a publicly available analysis codebase and for data archiving and organization.

3. The postdoc will write up this work for publication.The postdoc will present their work both internally and externally.

The Drew lab is affiliated with the Huck Institutes of the Life sciences (https://www.huck.psu.edu) and the Penn State Neuroscience Institute (https://www.huck.psu.edu/institutes-and-centers/neuroscience-institute), which provide an interactive and nurturing scientific environment for career development.
