The Children's Development Program Assistant provides comprehensive program service support for families and children residing at the Emergency Lodge in the targeted areas of education, physical health, mental health, and family and child safety.

About the role:



  • Assists with the implementation and oversite of educational and social programing for children and their families living at the Emergency Lodge.
  • Meets with families to complete the intake assessment for the Children's Development Program.
  • Maintains active working relationships (with regard to school attendance, tardiness, grades, assignments, teacher relationships, classroom issues, etc.) with all school districts and appropriate school personnel and advocates for the coordination of services for children residing at the Lodge.
  • Works interactively with parents/guardians to increase their effectiveness in parenting and advocacy on behalf of their children.
  • Assists with childcare while parents meet with professional staff on site.
  • Gather and distribute basic needs items as well as supplies for school, camps, activities, birthdays, personal care and seasonal events/activities.
  • Identifies and reports the need for program supplies.
  • Accepts and processes donations for the Children's Development Program.
  • Assists the Director with family sign ups, coordinating transportation to events, and other logistics.
  • Attends and actively participates in meetings with other community agencies on behalf of The Salvation Army Children's Development program, as directed.
  • Works with student interns, service learning tutors and other program volunteers by coordinating activities, lending hands-on support, serving as the on-site point person for questions and supplies.
  • Provides assistance to the Family Social Worker as needed.
  • Records program statistics for monthly reports.
  • Inputs data and case notes into Clarity.


Education: Associates degree in educational or human services related field preferred.

Certifications: Valid Wisconsin Driver's license with clearance to drive from The Salvation Army's insurance carrier required.

Experience:



  • Previous experience working with children
  • Previous work with the homeless population preferred

  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
