Minimum Qualifications
Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications

  • A master's degree (M.B.A. or specialized finance master)
  • 2 to 3 years experience in a senior financial role, particularly in areas like budgeting, reporting and financial analysis
  • 3 to 5 years experience in a supervisory role
  • Experience resolving complex financial issues working with multiple stakeholders
  • Knowledge of budget development, monitoring and approvals

Position Summary
The Director of Finance is responsible for the management and oversight of the daily financial and payroll transactions, preparing financial reports, directing financial employees and providing customer service for internal units of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to providing budget development and fiscal management for College, reviewing and approving financial and payroll records, various reporting activities, developing and implementing processes and procedures, analyzing data, problem solving and troubleshooting complex financial and payroll issues for the College. This role is also the second in command of the Finance part of the Office of Finance and Human Resources. As Director of Finance, this role supports senior leadership of the College and is a direct report of the Senior Director of Finance and Human Resources.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
* Knowledge of UGA's financial, budgeting and payroll practices, policies and procedures; knowledge of Foundation policies and procedures; knowledge of Sponsored Projects Administration.
* Experience in accounting processes including account receivables, account payables, journal entries and general ledger analysis and reconciliation, and performing various payroll transactions.
* Experience with UGA Systems: UGAmart, OneUSG Connect, UGA Financial Management and UGA Budget Management System
* Knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) Office365 and MS Teams
* Ability to work in dynamic work environment to efficiently multi-task, handle interruptions and meet accounting deadlines.
* Ability to interpret data, process information and report important fiscal matters to supervisor and CBO.
* Possess excellent communication skills and strong organizational skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail.
* Dependable and work well independently as well as in a team.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public.
* Attendance and punctuality are essential to the proper performance of the position.

Day-to-Day Fiscal Management
Serve as primary financial director overseeing all of the payroll and financial transactions for the College. This includes trouble shooting, compliance with policy and procedures, connecting with central units, approvals and working with business managers and department heads. College level reporting and analysis with a focus on income, payroll, financials, procurement, course fees, student activity fee, student technology fee and accounts receivable. Leading routine communications with financial staff coordinating with the Director of Human Resources to keep the College informed and in compliance. Serves as a link between the OFHR and departments. Interpret and explain fiscal and payroll policies, procedures, standards and ensure compliance. This position will be second in command to the Senior Director for Finance and Human Resources for financial matters with decision making and signature authority. Duties will also include providing direct support to the Senior Director, Dean, and Associate Deans of College. This includes attending meetings representing the office, college and Senior Director.

Supervise two full-time finance and operations manager, one full-time payroll manager and occasionally one part-time student worker including input into raises, drafting performance reviews, developing professional development plans, training and mentoring. Directing daily work load and activities regarding financials and payroll while coordinating with Director of Human Resources to align UGAJobs system with OneUSG Connect system. Indirect reporting for College wide financial practitioners in the College including directing financial tasks, training and mentoring.

Internal Operating Budget Development
Serve as primary lead for the College internal operating budget development with communications, coordination and reporting. This includes attending meetings, creating procedures, developing templates, and providing support to Department Heads, Directors and Associate Deans. This position will provide trend data analysis, projections and financial reports to Senior Director of Business and Finance and Dean for decision making. Routine reporting to monitor budget, funding and expenditures. Participation in the annual budget development and salary setting process and co-management with the Senior Director to ensure all employees are setup correctly, data input per deadlines, and reporting to senior leadership of the College.
