Job Overview

The Enterprise Application Architect aligns technology initiatives with business outcomes through strategic partnership and technical leadership. As a key member of the Enterprise Architecture team, they bring deep subject matter expertise in the application architecture domain while collaborating to define and promote the overall architectural vision.

The Enterprise Application Architect focuses on how Macy's designs software solutions-including applications, services, microservices, platforms, and the integration patterns and technologies that connect them. They establish standards and principles for the application domain and work closely with fellow enterprise architects to shape the broader enterprise architecture vision.

They are accountable for defining, documenting, and communicating both the current and target state architectures, as well as for developing actionable roadmaps to reach Macy's architectural "North Star." The architect identifies cross-cutting opportunities to accelerate delivery, enhance solution quality, and reduce risk, and drives the prioritization, funding, and implementation of key enablers.

In addition, they support and facilitate governance processes and systems that measure architectural health, encourage positive behaviors, and enable continuous improvement.

What You Will Do

  • Define and manage the processes, templates, and tools used to capture Macy's current-state application and integration architecture, including application, API, and event catalogs.
  • Establish and maintain architecture principles and standards for the application domain; partner with other Enterprise Architects to build a comprehensive reference library.
  • Define and actively advocate for Macy's target-state ("North Star") architecture.
  • Identify, prioritize, and secure funding for common platforms and components that accelerate delivery, reduce risk, and improve the quality of software solutions.
  • Drive efforts to rationalize the application portfolio, reduce complexity, and lower costs.
  • Provide technical expertise to support strategic architectural decision-making.
  • Champion robust solution designs that meet or exceed business needs and align with long-term enterprise strategy.
  • Maintain oversight of the enterprise architecture landscape and implement process controls to manage risk effectively.
  • Support and facilitate architecture governance and intake ("front door") processes.
  • Develop and maintain a framework for measuring system architectural health and risk, and lead initiatives that drive continuous improvement.
  • Create and manage tools and processes that enable architecture self-service for teams.
  • Provide on-demand architectural and design guidance to product and engineering teams.
  • Educate and engage Macy's teams on architectural best practices through seminars, workshops, videos, and other communication channels.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.
  • In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned.
