Georgia-Pacific Consumer Manufacturing Group is seeking a Converting Shift Leader role supporting the tissue and towel manufacturing operations at our Consumer Products Group Operation located in Zachary, LA.

The Converting Shift Leader will play a key role in overseeing aspects of the towel converting operations on a given shift. This role ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality production of tissue, towel, or paperboard products by leading a team of operators, coordinating maintenance activities, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Our Team

The Port Hudson Plant is located just north of Baton Rouge, LA and west of Zachary, LA. The Port Hudson mill employs about 350 people and has two tissue/towel paper machines and produces consumer tissue products such as bath tissue and paper towels sold under the Georgia-Pacific brand names of Quilted Northern and Brawny. The Port Hudson facility uses integrated technology to manufacture tissue and paper towel products in a progressive production environment. The Gulf Coast is only an hour away and there is plenty of history in the area to explore as well. For urban activities, Baton Rouge and New Orleans are just a short drive away.

What You Will Do

  • Embrace influential leadership to support the organization while advancing our Principle-Based Management (PBM) culture
  • Lead pre-shift safety huddles; reinforce EHS policies and behavior-based safety
  • Conduct regular line inspections; promptly address hazards and near-misses
  • Ensure all team members are trained on lock-out/tag-out, PPE usage, and emergency response
  • Assign operators to converting lines and balance workloads
  • Monitor line speeds, roll lengths, waste rates, and downtime events
  • Drive attainment of hourly, shift-end, and daily production targets
  • Verify product specifications (basis weight, emboss, cuts, sheet count) are met
  • Investigate and resolve quality deviations; document root-cause and corrective actions
  • Mentor and develop a multi-skilled workforce; conduct on-the-job training
  • Provide real-time feedback and performance coaching
  • Participate in hiring interviews and recommend staffing adjustments
  • Identify bottlenecks and lead mill events to reduce waste and increase throughput
  • Collaborate with Maintenance to implement reliability improvements (e.g., PM schedules, spare parts)
  • Track and report key performance indicators (OEE, MTBR, MTTR)
  • Complete shift logs, downtime reports, and production summaries in the MES/ERP system
  • Communicate handoff information to incoming shift leaders
  • Interface with support functions (Logistics, Maintenance, Engineering) for line startups and roll changes

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Experience in a supervisory/management role with direct reports
  • Experience working in a manufacturing, industrial or military operations environment
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks and work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work rotating shifts that include days, nights, weekends, and holidays

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Associate's Degree or higher
  • Experience working in a pulp, paper or converting manufacturing environment
