Ambulatory Care Clinical Educator/Infection Preventionist-Full Time

Job Summary:

This dual-role position integrates clinical education and infection prevention responsibilities within the ambulatory care environment. The individual will support staff development and clinical competency while ensuring adherence to infection prevention protocols across hospital-based outpatient clinics.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Ambulatory Care Clinical Educator

  • Collaborates with senior leadership, clinic administrators, and clinical staff to design and implement general orientation, job-specific training, and competency validation programs. Utilizes program evaluations to refine and develop educational initiatives.
  • Facilitates onboarding of ambulatory care staff by delivering role-based education and validating clinical competencies. Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of competency validations.
  • Assesses staff performance and uses coaching techniques to enhance care delivery. Applies clinical nursing expertise to address the unique needs of ambulatory patient populations.
  • Promotes a culture of continuous learning, professional development, and evidence-based practice.
  • Ensures all educational offerings align with current best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Completes regulatory audits and monitors for compliance with standards.
  • Acts as liaison for regulatory and practice leadership.
  • Participates in regulatory bodies surveys as directed by regulatory and operations leadership.
  • Actively participates in relevant ambulatory care committees.

Infection Preventionist

  • Conducts infection control compliance rounds in ambulatory clinics and services.
  • Serves as a liaison between ambulatory sites and the hospital's Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) team.
  • Monitors and evaluates infection prevention practices, including hand hygiene compliance, PPE availability, environmental safety, disinfection and sterilization protocols, and the management of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).
  • Reports high-risk or contagious cases to the Department of Health for further investigation and follow-up.
  • Participates in the MWHC's Infection Prevention and Control Committee.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) required within three years of hire.
  • Experience as a clinical or staff educator with the ability to apply adult learning principles preferred.
  • Basic infection prevention and control knowledge required.
  • Experience using education, documentation, and tracking software systems required.
  • Frequent travel to the facilities within the Ambulatory Division required.
