Summary:

Goldbelt is in search for an Epidemiologist to support the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases with surveillance, data collection, management, and analysis, statistics, research, and field investigations.


Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide epidemiology, statistical, surveillance, research, and file investigations support, including data collection, management, and analysis
    • Perform epidemiological analysis using SAS and/or R
    • Develop dashboards and visualizations to support decision making
    • Develop, revise, and review study protocols, questionnaires, and other data collection forms
    • Provide quality assurance guidance
    • Maintain relevant IRB approvals
    • Liase with necessary stakeholders, including principal investigators, site coordinators, study enrollers, and laboratory personnel
    • Present findings and trends to stakeholders to enable informed decision making
    • Assist with preparation of scientific manuscripts
  • Provide quality data management support
    • Ensure laboratory quality management requirements, such as SOP's, are in place, maintained, and adhered to
    • Assist with conducting audits
  • Provide behavioral science support
    • Provide research and reporting support to:
      • Participate in the design and implementation of behavioral research and programmatic work, including structural, community, and individual level interventions, that are designed to increase vaccine acceptance and demand
      • Conduct literature reviews from relevant disciplines and develop research protocols, quantitative and qualitative data collection instruments, data analysis plan, and reports
      • Establish the appropriate research literature and approaches pertinent to the tasks assigned
      • Prepare original scientific research papers and literature reviews dealing with behavioral issues as they impact upon vaccine demand and acceptance, for publication in scientific journals
      • Lead development of reports and publications based on results from behavioral research and programmatic projects, disseminates results to major stakeholders, and recommends actions for scale-up.
    • Provide technical support to:
      • Provide guidance to a data manager in the creation, maintenance, and organization of data-management and analysis systems
      • Formulate and analyze social, behavioral, and epidemiologic quantitative and qualitative data with the assistance of statistical software packages
      • Conduct or oversee the management and analysis of complex qualitative and quantitative data
      • Methodological responsibilities include determination of appropriate sampling methods, development of quantitative and qualitative data collection instruments and techniques, and coding of variables
    • Support collaboration:
      • Coordinate with medical officers, behavioral and health scientists, health educators, epidemiologists, and staff to design and evaluate tailored interventions to increase demand for vaccination among priority groups
      • Work effectively with project staff, community representatives, and other scientists to identify needs of the target groups; identify, design, and implement appropriate, tailored interventions; and design and implement evaluation instruments

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Work experience in epidemiologist, medical epidemiologist, statistician, biostatistician, bioinformatician, health science, laboratory analysis, laboratory training, virology, assay development, microbiology, or related field (preferably in a public health setting);
  • Experience with clinical data;
  • Knowledge of R, SAS, or other statistical programming packages;
  • Knowledge of Power BI, Tableau, and other data visualization and/or management systems;
  • Expertise in the use of Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, PowerPoint and Outlook Mail);
  • Ability to work in a public health emergency response environment

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA/BS with 1-3 years' experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BA/BS with 2+ years' experience
  • Experience with SAS, R and/or other statistical programming
  • Experience with managing surveillance systems
