Actuarial Senior Manager - Hybrid

* Securian Financial Groups internal position title isActuarial Manager or Actuarial Senior Manager. The title is based on experience and exams.

Position Summary:

This position is part of the Valuation Center of Excellence in Enterprise Actuarial Services, a service-oriented function focusing on actuarial valuation and analysis needs. Financial results are an important metric and management tool at Securian, and actuarial balances are key components of the financials. The Valuation COE provides financial results, expertise, and analysis of actuarial valuation and projections to support management decisions and drive business value. An associate in this position will be part of creating a supportive and collaborative team environment and fostering expertise in actuarial valuation and analysis.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: (these are focused on Individual Solutions until transition of Affinity Solutions in 2021)

  • Lead a team of associates to produce, analyze, and govern actuarial valuations and related projections

  • Foster a culture of excellence in financial reporting, controls, and financial analysis

  • Produce quarterly financial results for annuity products, including analysis and reports to explain results to stakeholders

  • Provide ad-hoc support and expertise for valuation questions, sensitivities, and related projections, including goals and plans

  • Serve as product valuation expert on statutory, GAAP, and tax valuations for annuity products; key point of contact for market segments, product lines, and auditors (internal/external) for valuation, financial reporting, and audits

  • Partner with stakeholders to prioritize efforts and resources to deliver results

  • Identify and implement process, system, and methodology improvements to drive consistency and efficiency, including partnering on AFM initiatives as needed

  • Educate self and others on new and revised valuation regulations (e.g. PBR, LDTI), including plans for implementing them as required

  • Collaborate with Modeling COE partners to develop actuarial valuation models; provide requirements and perform user acceptance testing

  • Collaborate with product development partners to determine valuation methodologies for new products

  • Support and inform the future state and culture of the Valuation Center of Excellence

Qualifications:

  • FSA designation with at least 5 years of relevant experience (e.g. valuation, modeling, and pricing)

  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to create and maintain a positive culture and drive results through others.

  • Effective prioritization, including the ability to balance precision / accuracy and resources / timelines within the bigger picture.

  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and project management skills to ensure quality standards and deadlines are met

  • Collaborative, service, and consulting oriented style to add value and meet needs of business partners

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to explain processes and results to both finance and non-finance personnel

  • Strong work ethic and commitment to bringing projects and issues to closure

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing associates, formally or informally

  • Knowledge of life and annuity products.

  • Knowledge of valuation regulations

  • Ability to be mobile periodically throughout entire workday

The estimated base pay range for this job is:

$124,000.00 - $230,000.00

Pay may vary depending on job-related factors and individual experience, skills, knowledge, etc. More information on base pay and incentive pay (if applicable) can be discussed with a member of the Securian Financial Talent Acquisition team.
