Paid Time Off:

Eligible employees begin accruing PTO as of their date of hire and accrual rates are based on years of service. Base annual accrual starts at 120 hours/15 days for full time status. PTO is a combination of sick and vacation accruals. UMC follows the required WA State Sick Leave guidelines and employees are provided (1) for every 40 hours worked as part of the PTO package. UMC also offers (7) paid holidays, plus (1) Floating Holiday to be used within the calendar year.

Position Description

Starting Salary Range: $87,000 - $120,000 a year; depending on experience

Location: Everett

Classification: Exempt

Position Overview:

Bid and budget all Industrial Piping, Equipment, Structural, Civil works, HVAC/Air Systems and complex mechanical systems. Coordinate activities from receipt of plans to bid or proposal.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Take in Plan/Drawings sets and file them accordingly.
  2. Using the IG Tick Sheets, take off scopes of work for each trade for labor, materials and equipment.
  3. Know and Understand Union Trade agreements that will be associated with each estimate
  4. Know and understand IG Trade Rate sheets.
  5. Participate in bid activities including specialty quotes, equipment pricing and subcontractors.
  6. Generate Subcontractor and Vendor request for bid and call to confirm bid coverage.
  7. Review specifications and drawings prior to take offs.
  8. Prepare estimates from schematic to fully designed bid documents.
  9. Prepare SD,DD, CD and IFC estimates for clients
  10. Complete all estimating forms as required to prepare a complete estimate to a Recap
  11. Review estimate and pertinent information with IG Director and VP of Operations (on estimates over 500K)
  12. Aid in preparation for proposal letters with IG Business Development Manager
  13. Update current pricing and labor in the estimating program on a regular basis.
  14. Be able to help develop Pre-con budgets and scopes
  15. Aid in developing project schedules for initial proposed scopes.
  16. Develop trust and respect from subcontractors and vendors to ensure the best relations for the Industrial Groups.
  17. Regular attendance and promptness are considered part of each employee's essential job functions.
  18. Attend job walks if needed to fully understand the estimate scope.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  1. Assist Industrial Group Director in developing estimates and ROM's for developing clients.
  2. Assist other members of the IG in estimating larger change orders and ROM's for existing clients on a as needed basis.
Position Requirements

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Technical knowledge of mechanical systems, construction methods and how the construction industry operates.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Field experience or technical background.
  • Basic knowledge of construction accounting.
  • Experience with reading construction drawing and specifications.
  • Detailed understanding of piping and or sheet metal systems estimating.
  • Ability to layout plumbing, piping and or sheet metal systems and have a working understanding of the Uniform Plumbing Code.
  • Willing to work effectively with other employees as a team member.
  • Ability to use and interact with spreadsheets such as excel at a moderate level (input, data manipulation, basic programming).
  • Ability to use and interact with word processors at a moderate level (cut & paste, templates, document creation).

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Manager appointed PE's and PC's for the duration of the estimates

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • College degree or equivalent field experience.
  • 5 years of estimating experience in Industrial/Mechanical
  • Advanced skills in computer

Required Licensing and Other Certifications:

  • Maintain a valid drivers license and satisfactory driving record.
