Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
The
BSOM Research and Graduate Studies Office promotes development and facilitation of programs in research and in pre- and post-doctoral PhD training in the biomedical sciences. The office is dedicated to sustaining excellence in graduate education and to strengthening the vital link between research and the educational process. The
BSOM Research and Graduate Studies Office has oversight for research activities in the Brody School of Medicine, and coordinates activities with other divisions of the university as they relate to research and graduate studies in a collaborative fashion. |
Job Duties |
The postdoctoral scholar is responsible for independent and collaborative development, implementation, and analysis of scientific research in the discipline of Biomedical Sciences. Responsibilities include directing experiments to examine morphology, structure and functions of various cell types associated with human and animal organs and diseases using cell analysis, biochemical and cell biological methods. Duties include performing experiments, hypothesis development, literature review, collection of pilot data, report writing, and supervising of other post-doctoral fellows, undergraduate research students and graduate research students. The scholar will also oversee data collection procedures, supervise experimental procedures, data entry/data analysis, review data for quality control, test research hypotheses using descriptive and multivariate statistics, and the develop independent and collaborative presentations and publications.
Approximately
95% of the postdoctoral scholar's time will be devoted to planning and performing experiments, carrying out data collection and analysis, as well as compiling results into reports and publications.
Approximately
5% of the postdoctoral scholar's time will be devoted to managing the day-to-day activity of undergraduate and graduate research students in the laboratory.
Scholars are expected to demonstrate compliance with established guidelines and regulatory standards. |
