Systems Engineer/Integrator

LOCATION: Nationwide

Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Systems Engineer/Integrator. The Systems Engineer/Integrator provides expert analysis and technical leadership in the development, integration, and modernization of the National Airspace System (NAS). This role involves conducting system-wide evaluations across the NAS development life cycle, with a focus on Air Traffic Control (ATC) automation, communications, navigation, and surveillance systems. The engineer supports the transition of legacy systems to modernized platforms and ensures interoperability, performance, and reliability throughout the integration process. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in system architecture, lifecycle engineering, and operational integration in complex aviation environments.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (civil, electrical, electronic, chemical, industrial, mechanical, aeronautical, systems, or computer) or in a Physical Science (e.g., mathematics, physics, meteorology, chemistry)

    • 10 years of relevant experience in lieu of a Bachelor's degree
  • 1-20 years of relevant experience in systems engineering or integration

  • Demonstrated experience with system-wide analysis and development life cycles

  • Familiarity with Air Traffic Control systems and key NAS components (automation, communications, navigation, and surveillance)

  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Master's degree in a related field (may substitute for Bachelor's degree and 3 years of experience)

  • Ph.D. in a related field (may substitute for Bachelor's degree and 7 years of experience)

  • Experience with FAA or other civil aviation authority programs

  • Familiarity with system engineering methodologies such as INCOSE, MBSE, or DOORS

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct comprehensive system-wide reviews and technical analyses of NAS components throughout the development life cycle

  • Support the integration and transition of legacy ATC systems to modernized platforms

  • Evaluate and improve performance of ATC automation, communication, navigation, and surveillance systems

  • Develop system-level requirements, architectures, and interface designs

  • Identify system dependencies, risks, and mitigation strategies to ensure successful integration

  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including engineering teams and program managers, to align systems design with operational requirements

  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations to support system planning and implementation

  • Support testing, verification, and validation of integrated NAS systems
