About the Job

Position Summary

The Engagement Program Manager, Humphrey School of Public Affairs, is responsible for designing and delivering engagement and fundraising strategies to build and strengthen donor communities for our Humphrey Centers and Humphrey Alumni. In the near term, this will focus on the Public Policy Fellows program (within the Center for the Study of Politics and Governance) and the Humphrey alumni network This position reports to the lead development officer and works in close collaboration with staff at the Centers and the School's alumni relations associate director.

Specifically, this position is responsible for the following:
* Set, own and implement short and long-terms goals to create increased engagement with communities to build donor pipelines
* Provide tailored and meaningful engagement experiences and fundraising activities for new and existing donors who are Public Policy Fellows or Humphrey School alumni
* Collaborate with partners from the broader University of Minnesota Foundation (UMF) team, along with the units to facilitate activities and experiences
* Serve as a content expert; provide industry best practice perspective and recommend program adjustments as part of continuous improvement
* Support other general fundraising initiatives and operations of the Humphrey School development department

Job Responsibilities:

Donor Engagement and Outreach (80%)
* Serve as project manager in executing engagement and fundraising activities for donors and potential donors; coordinate with key UMF and unit-based colleagues to achieve goals
* Design and implement strategic engagement and annual giving programs that activate participants - especially Policy Fellows and Humphrey School alumni - as both donors and long-term advocates. Build relationships that lead to increased giving and future major gift potential
* Create and lead non-major gift activities for the assigned populations (i.e., annual fund efforts, crowdfunding, etc.)
* Manage portfolio of 15-20 leadership annual giving level donors and prospective donors for programs
* Identify new prospects within and strategies for the Humphrey Centers and the Humphrey alumni communities using data, research, and relationship-building strategies
* Collaborate with the lead development officer to move engaged donors through the giving pipeline-from first-time gifts to leadership, annual and major giving
* Serve as a content expert; provide industry best practice perspective and recommend program adjustments

Data and Fund Management (10%)
* Establish and track engagement metrics, fundraising outcomes, and program participation to build strategy and assess effectiveness. Use data to create strategies for increased gifts
* Request and analyze data for donor and prospective donor information in support of the Humphrey Centers and Humphrey School alumni activities

Administrative (10%)
* Develop and maintain regular reports
* Oversee budget
* Provide other program support, as needed

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
* BA/BS degree, plus six years of experience working in development and/or alumni relations, project/event management, or a closely related field
* Proven strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with high attention to detail
* Self starter with an ability to work independently while contributing effectively to team efforts
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain a strong sense of urgency
* Demonstrated success in working independently but also collaboratively in a team setting
* Ability to manage multiple priorities and constituents while keeping on track and meeting deadlines
* Strong relationship-building skills with diverse groups, including donors, faculty, alumni, strategic partners, and volunteers
* Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills and effective presentation skills
* Ability to maintain confidential information
* Experience using databases, websites, and related digital tools for donor engagement or event management

Preferred Qualifications
* Experience building and expanding donor pipelines
* Experience identifying and cultivating new donor audiences
* Demonstrated ability to generate innovative ideas
* Passion for advancing the mission of public affairs and higher education
* Familiarity with constituent segmentation, donor journey mapping, and/or CRM-based engagement
* Demonstrated commitment to inclusive and community-centered engagement
* Demonstrated sound professional judgment and discretion

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $85,000.00 - 90,153.00; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: 75%-100% Appointment (If job description above does not specify appointment or expected weekly hours, assume a 100% appointment.)
