At the University of Virginia, investigators in the Beirne B. Carter Center for Immunology Research (Carter Immunology Center) seek a fundamental understanding of how the immune system works. If they can determine, on the most basic level, how the immune system distinguishes between healthy and harmful cells, this could lead to revolutionary new treatments and cures based on controlling the immune response. Position Summary The Beirne B. Carter Immunology Center (CIC) at the University of Virginia's School of Medicine seeks a Research Scientist to join the Ewald Lab at the CIC. The successful applicant must have demonstrated experience in innate immunology, microbiology and/or biochemistry. The work will require the incumbent to display significant knowledge concerning mechanisms of host-parasite/pathogen interactions and innate immunity. Additionally, the position requires experience in molecular and cellular biology, genetic manipulation of host cells and/or pathogens (ideally Toxoplasma or related protozoa), protein biochemistry, animal models of infection, and working with omics datasets. Responsibilities
Eligibility for NIH postdoctoral fellowship funding is helpful but not mandatory. The incumbent will participate in a range of relevant lab projects and write study reports for the study sponsors, papers, and grant applications. As time permits, the incumbent will be expected to develop research programs. The incumbent will also be expected to attend and participate in laboratory meetings and CIC-related seminars, as well as work with graduate students, technicians, fellows, and collaborators in the laboratories involved in the project.
Note: Research Associate positions are for candidates who have obtained their PhD within the past 3 years. Candidates who have received or will receive their terminal degree between 2022 and 2025 are eligible to apply. Minimum Qualifications
