Overview:

Sentara Health is seeking to hire a qualified individual to join our team as a Communications Assistant.

Position Status: Hiring for full-time rotating shifts

Position Location: Remote, but must come on-site at Sentara Independence - Virginia Beach, VA if having connectivity issues or when needed.

Will be assigned to one of the below fixed shifts:

Shift 1: 3:30PM - 2:00AM, Wednesday - Saturday

Shift 2: 9:30PM - 8:00AM, Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday

Shift 3: 8:00AM - 6:30PM, Sunday, Friday, Saturday and Tuesday 3:00PM - 1:30AM

Overview

Sentara Communication Assistants play a critical role within the organization facilitating all emergent and non-emergent communication both externally and internally. Our Centralized Hospital Communications Center is responsible for all Sentara Hospitals and free-standing emergency departments. (Currently 12 hospitals and 4 FSEDs). External call facilitation will generally include, but is not limited to, looking up patient information for friends and family members of patients and transferring customers to appropriate departments throughout the organization. Internal call facilitation will generally include utilizing complex on-call schedules with escalations and facilitating nurse to physician and physician to physician communication to include emergent consultations. Will assist with training new employees at your level and additional duties as assigned.

Previous healthcare and multi-line phone experience preferred. Understanding of medical terminology preferred.

Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Certification/Licensure
  • No specific certification or licensure requirements

Experience
  • Call center - 1 year

  • Keyboard skills - 1 year

  • Customer service - 1 year

  • Healthcare - 1 year

  • Must have familiarity with medical terminology, Microsoft teams, and products

  • Must be tech savvy

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, and benefits. The base pay rate for Full Time employment is:$16.35 - $23.08. Additional compensation may be available for this role such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.

Sentara Independence provides quality outpatient services to the surrounding community. The facility includes an ambulance-accessible emergency room that is supported by board-certified physicians. Sentara Independence is now an extension of the quality services at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital including advanced imaging and physical therapy.
