About This Role

Kansas State University is seeking a Senior Photographer to join the Division of Communications and Marketing. This position plays a key leadership role in visually capturing the university's story through strategic, high-quality photography that supports institutional goals and enhances brand identity.

As a member of the division's Creative Services team, the Senior Photographer will manage the day-to-day operations of the university's photo services function. This includes overseeing administrative tasks, leading the recruitment and supervision of student photographers, and providing guidance to other full-time photography staff as needed. In addition to department management, the Senior Photographer will also serve as a lead photographer, planning and executing photoshoots for the Division of Communications and Marketing as well as campus partners across the university.

The successful candidate will be creative, organized, and highly collaborative, with the ability to manage a team while also producing compelling visual content. This role works closely with colleagues across disciplines including design, writing, marketing, web services, and video production. The Senior Photographer will also meet with campus partners to better understand their goals and ensure photography supports and enhances broader communication efforts.

This position may occasionally require work outside of regular business hours, including evenings and weekends.

This position reports to the Creative Director.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:



  • High school Diploma


Preferred Qualifications:



  • 5+ years of professional photography experience producing images across a variety of settings, including editorial, candid, event, and brand-driven environments
  • Bachelor's degree in photography, communications, or a related field
  • Supervisory and management experience, including oversight of staff or student employees, administrative responsibilities, and day-to-day operational coordination
  • Experience collaborating with clients and creative teammates to plan, conceptualize, and develop photoshoots that align with project goals
  • Proficiency with DSLR and/or mirrorless camera systems
  • Strong visual storytelling skills and an eye for brand-aligned composition
  • Proficient in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop for professional photo editing
  • Skilled in both studio and natural lighting techniques
  • Strong self-management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage schedules, meet deadlines, and work within a project management system
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to discuss creative ideas, explain photographic decisions, and engage professionally with clients and teammates
  • Current FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate
