Job Title: Cost Accountant
Location: Roanoke, Virginia, or San Antonio, Texas

Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Cost Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, and reporting on cost data to ensure effective cost control and accurate financial reporting. This role involves deep involvement in cost tracking, budgeting, forecasting, and cost analysis, including both actual and standard costing. The Cost Accountant will work closely with operations, procurement, and finance teams to support decision-making and drive operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cost Analysis:
    • Perform comprehensive cost analysis, including both actual costing and standard costing.
    • Analyze variances between actual and standard costs and investigate root causes.
    • Provide insights into cost drivers and recommend corrective actions as needed.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting:
    • Assist in the development and management of departmental and company-wide budgets.
    • Prepare cost forecasts and financial projections to support business planning.
    • Monitor budget adherence and report on deviations.
  • Cost Tracking:
    • Track material, labor, and overhead costs across production and operational processes.
    • Ensure timely and accurate recording of cost transactions.
  • Cost Control:
    • Monitor spending and implement cost control measures to improve profitability.
    • Work with departments to identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements.
  • PPV (Purchase Price Variance) Reconciliation:
    • Reconcile and analyze PPV on a weekly basis.
    • Collaborate with procurement and supply chain teams to understand pricing discrepancies and negotiate improvements.
  • Floor Stock Analysis:
    • Review and analyze floor stock inventory levels and movement.
    • Ensure proper valuation and accounting of floor stock to minimize shrinkage and obsolescence.
  • Supplies and Small Tools Analysis:
    • Track usage, cost, and inventory levels of consumables, supplies, and small tools.
    • Perform cost-benefit analysis for procurement and usage efficiency.
  • Reporting:
    • Prepare regular financial and cost reports for management review.
    • Support monthly and year-end close processes with accurate cost data and journal entries.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in cost accounting, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, cost accounting principles, and financial reporting.
  • Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail.
  • Previous experience with WIP tracking preferred
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Office and occasional shop floor environment.
  • May require periodic travel to production facilities.
