Requirements

The Beeck Center for Social Impact + Innovation at Georgetown University works to bridge the gap between local government needs and the wealth of community data, tools, and policy research available in academic institutions, research centers, and the civic tech ecosystem. This position will support community-facing digital tools, technical assistance (TA), and peer learning through a responsive Community of Practice (CoP).

The Senior Manager, Research + Engagement will design and lead the research and evaluation strategy, shape our public thought leadership, and co-create the engagement model for the CoP and TA offerings. This role blends applied research and evaluation, values-based storytelling, and peer learning design to equip local governments and communities in implementing practical and equitable solutions across a range of potential issue areas such as climate, housing, digital benefits, emergency assistance, and more. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in applied research and evaluation, writing for public audiences, and equitable community engagement. This role is ideal for a thoughtful systems thinker who can connect the dots between practitioner needs, local government realities, and the data and technology solutions needed to address a range of public challenges at the local level.

Work Interactions

The Senior Manager, Research + Engagement will report directly to the Project Lead, The Opportunity Project for Cities. This position collaborates across the Beeck Center to build high-impact, equity-centered programs from the ground up. Furthermore, this position will participate in cross-center initiatives and research standardization efforts, including grant reporting and data visualization storytelling with the Beeck Center's communications and research teams. Additionally, the Senior Manager will engage frequently with local governments, community partners, and academic collaborators. This position may support and mentor student analysts.

Requirements and Qualifications

Candidates for this position must have:
  • Bachelor's degree, and 5-7 years of experience, each year of work experience may be substituted for each year of education required
  • 5+ years demonstrated experience designing and conducting applied research in policy, governance, civic tech, or related fields
  • Proven ability to translate research into accessible, public-facing content such as briefs, reports, case studies, or toolkits
  • Experience in planning and managing complex projects and maintaining relationships across internal and external stakeholders
  • Familiarity with values-based storytelling, participatory research, or human-centered design
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to synthesize and convey complex information across technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and consistently produce high-quality results
  • A strong commitment to advancing equity in public service


Ideal candidates for this position will also have:
  • Experience working with or in local or state governments
  • Familiarity with one or more public problem areas (e.g., climate resilience, digital benefits, emergency services, health equity
  • Enthusiasm for building inclusive communities of practice and mentoring early-career professionals
  • Willingness to work in a university environment and engage with its networks to support public service innovation

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$54,616.00 - $100,493.33

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
