The Network Engineer is responsible for designing and supporting data networks and voice systems for various Specialty Generics business functions. This includes local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), wireless technologies, Internet connectivity, and related network security platforms.The Network Engineer ensures reliable and secure network and voice services for users and systems through both direct hands on support and management of third party resources.
Provide technical expertise in the administration of Mallinckrodt's voice and data networks. Install, maintain, and support LAN, WAN, wireless, voice, and network security systems. Deploy, configure, and monitor network, host, and cloud security technologies on a global scale. Coordinate with telecommunications providers to provision, install, and troubleshoot network circuits. Maintain and utilize network management tools to identify, isolate, and resolve system outages and performance issues. Install and configure infrastructure hardware, including servers, routers, switches, firewalls, wireless devices, PBX systems, and voicemail platforms. Participate in regular staff and team meetings. Build a working knowledge of how supported technologies are commonly used in the industry. Cultivate strong working relationships with IT colleagues and internal customers to enhance collaboration and service delivery. Take part in career development planning, including defining career goals and engaging in targeted development activities. Support the regional security team with tasks such as project implementation, issue analysis, and root cause investigations. Provide day-to-day IT support as needed across various functions. Manage and coordinate with external contractors and technology vendors as required. Perform other duties as assigned, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Associate's degree with commensurate experience required. Bachelor's degree strongly preferred. 7+ years Information Technology Experience. 7+ years of experience in data networking preferred Technical Proficiency - Expert level knowledge and experience with LAN, WAN, and wireless technologies including routing, switching, routing protocols, network hardware, network management, network security, QOS, and packet capture analysis. Has deep knowledge of all layers of the OSI model and strong design skills. Has strong understanding of carrier network technologies deployed in complex WAN environments. Hands on experience or working knowledge of the following: Cisco Routing, Switching, and Wireless technologies, Network Security, Palo Alto firewalls, Cisco ASA firewalls/VPN, F5, Voice platforms, VoIP, Avaya Aura Call Manager and Messaging. Analytical Abilities - Advanced problem-solving skills including working collaboratively with peer technical teams to analyze & resolve cross-platform problems or to develop problem-solving techniques, tools & instruction for new or complex technologies. Project Management - Ability to manage/lead multi-site infrastructure projects utilizing external resources. Business Knowledge - Advanced understanding of how supported technologies are used in the business operations; ability to utilize this knowledge in resolving complex issues. Communication skills - Strong verbal & written communication skills. Communications are complete & understandable to target audience; demonstrates effective listening skills; regularly handles difficult customers or situations effectively requiring sensitivity and diplomacy. Independence - Often works independently with only general direction; appropriately keeps management informed of relevant issues. Mentoring - Mentoring peers and other new personnel; Seen as a subject matter expert on multiple technologies. Administration - Handles a wide range of administrative tasks effectively while managing an overall task workload that may include technical activities. Writes new/updates existing procedures and controls.
Organizational Relationship/Scope:
This position reports to the Director of Infrastructure & Operations and is part of a team that supports data services, devices, and VoIP systems for various Mallinckrodt business functions. This position is an individual contributor.
Normal office environment. Requirement to be available to work out of hours or weekends, sometimes at short notice.
